  • Detailed: 2009 Corvette ZR-1 Correction...

This is one detail that I have been looking forward to. I've done a few 'Vettes before but this is the daddy of all them. The only problem was....it was black. I'm usually ok with this color but throw in a 150K+ car, hard clear, and picky owner....I was sweating. Oh well. Gotta work!

    Detail Description:
Exterior with paint correction and protection.

    Goal:
To remove defects, enhance gloss/depth, and protect.

    Wash Cycle:
Dawn Wash (2 oz. per 2 gallons of water)...rinse.
    then....
    Meguiar's Gold Class Wash...rinse.
Clayed using Meguiar's Last touch 1:1

The only areas that had any fallout was the rear spoiler and rear quarter panels.

    Paint Correction Phase 1:
Meguiar's 105 via G110 using LC White 5.5" Polishing Pad

I used this combo once I found that 105/Orange Pad was leaving a ton of marring. This new arrangement left a lot more hazing that I was use to as well. After compounding the hood, no other panels were done with 105

A complete wipedown was done using Meguiar's Detailer Line glass cleaner.

    Paint Correction Phase 2:
    Menzerna's 106FF via G110 using Meguiar's Yellow 2.0 Polishing Pad

This is the one time that this product worked well for me. It melted the holograms away leaving a glossy finish.

A complete wipedown was done using Meguiar's Detailer Line glass cleaner.

    Paint Protection:
    Pinnacle's Souveran Paste Wax
    Meguiar's Ultimate Quick Wax

    Wheel Protection:
    Meguiar's Ultimate Quick Wax

    Tire Protection:
    Meguiar's Endurance Tire Gel

    Time accumulated:
    6 hours

Tons of holograms. The owner said that no detailer has touched the paint. Factory to dealer to him. Oh well.........they were still there.

The swirls showed up too. Looked like marring from washing and a chamois....

    More buffer trails....

After 105 only. You can see the marring that I was whining about. Much better though.

This is after 105/106FF and a wipedown. No wax or sealant.

The exterior was re-washed to remove any residue. It was then blown dry and pulled inside. The paint was sealed and then backed out for some beauty shots....

Just needs KITT's scanner bar! This is the car that would have made Knight Rider proud.

Nice job on an incredible machine! I have noticed in a few of your posts, you use dawn soap to begin with. May I ask why? I have always been told this is a no no? Thanks
There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you'll enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?

First of all.....thanks to all! This is actually becoming fun again.

I use Dawn ONLY when I start a FULL CORRECTION DETAIL. I do this to strip off LSP's and to simply get it clean. I love the oil in Gold Class so I wash with it after the Dawn wash.

I do it to make sure that all polishing oils and polish is completely removed. I use Meg's Detailer Line Glass Cleaner for windows and since I already have it with me, its used instead of an alcohol mix.
