  • 2009 Toyota Corolla

Today I had the chance to work on a 2009 Corolla. The car was relatively free of swirls because the owner only goes to automated touchless car washes. The car is in pretty good shape except for some water spots and some light scratches.

I have no before picture of the car, but the paint wasn't bad. This car takes the cake in terms of orange peel. It is dreadful.

I started washing and claying the car really quickly. I used M105 and a cutting pad to remove some light scratches at 1500rpm.

Then for the entire car, I used M205 and some white polishing pad I purchased from Autogeek, working the product in starting at 900rpm, then work it up to 1500rpm, then slowly back down to 1000rpm with no pressure. The finish looked great and haze free, but not good enough for me.

So I switched to an ultra-soft blue finishing pad to work M205 at 1200rpm. The depth is back, in fact, better than it looked when it first rolled out of the production line. I am surprised at the car's lack of depth from the factory. They simply get the car out to the Toyota Stores without even at least polishing it.

    Here are some pictures:

Sorry for the lack of pics, I was too caught up detailing and didn't take many pictures. LSP was M16, but no pictures of that because the camera was out of battery.

Looks like you got a nice wet look for such a light color. M205 with the right pad really does some amazing things to a finish, huh???

By the way, we deleted your dupe post on this.

Very nice. Can really see the metallic flakes in the paint.

                Re: 2009 Toyota Corolla

You are off to a good start! Nice reflection on a lighter color.
I would tape off the cowl next time to avoid cleaning the splatter off. It's something I don't like to do and taping makes it easier to clean up afterwards
The power cord and bottle on the paint will leave a smudge/mark I have found out, especially on black so one should avoid that.

Just a few tricks I have picked up on and I am no expert.......

                Again great job!

The #205 worked very well for the silver paint! I would try to avoid letting the cord sit on the hood like that, especially after doing such a good job of polishing the paint. You don't want to undo your work.

thanks for the kind feedbacks people!

hehe thanks for the suggestions about the cord! I would surely avoid doing that next time. I couldn't bend down to place the rotary on the ground because of the sore back!!!

Expectedly, the cord didn't cause any damage. Unfortunately, however, the car is now covered in leaves on the owner's driveway right now so all the work is undone already lol

M205 indeed has some very positive effect on the paint. It's possibly one of the best finishing polishes I've used!

Looks really nice. A lot of heart in it and with a sore back to boot.
