Here's an '09 HD I recently did. The owner had just returned from an 8 hour trip that took him through rain and snow. The bike was the dirtiest it had been since he purchased it. We weren't going for 100% correction because this is a well-used bike. I got pretty close, though.

I spent almost 4 hours on it just washing every nook and cranny. It was by far the longest wash of my life. Since it was so dirty, I knew if I missed anything it would stand out. That's the reasoning for taking so long to wash everything. The saddlebags, seat, sissy bar, and rack were all removed prior to washing to assist in getting to everything.

Blackfire Poly Clay and Last Touch Detailing spray 1:1 was used on the paint and the exhaust. I used M80 and a polishing pad on the paint and topped it with Blackfire Wet Diamond. Neverdull was used on the chrome trim to remove some waterspots. PlastX was used on the fairing and Hyperdressing 4:1 on the seat. The seat was then wiped down with a damp cloth.

The owner was ecstatic and said I'll be doing both his 08 F-250 and his wife's Lincoln SUV.

Excellent work Colin Those were some pretty powerful before and after photos you were able to capture. The bike looks nice and clean and has that dripping wet look to it

Thanks, Nick. I was extremely happy with the end result. After he got back from his trip, he called me up and asked if I still wanted to do it. He said it was so dirty he thought I might want to pass on it. I laughed and said, "Are you kidding? It just makes for a more dramatic end result." The rest is history.

Thanks, Mike. This was a fun one (with the exception of the wash)

Thank you! That's Roscoe, my little buddy. He's a coonhound/beagle mix. He's almost 12 years old. I've pretty much grown up with this dog, so I love him a lot.

Nice work! Did you have fun with the rear wheel? If they aren't sealed when they're brand new the brake dust and belt residue etches into the aluminum and it's impossible to clean 100%.

What machine and specific pad did you use? H-D's Vivid Black is the softest, stickiest, most miserable finish I've ever polished. Kept getting micromarring with M205 regardless of what pad I used..... ended up finishing with Ultrafina and LC black in order to get it right. Strange, only had that problem on the tank, the fiberglass and plastic bits came out fine!

Bet your glad there weren't a coupla wheels full of chrome spokes for you to have fun with

Yeah, the rear wheel was a blast. I have a few scrapes on my hands from trying to get in there and clean them. They were sealed and cleaned up well.

I used my G100 and a polishing pad. It took about an hour to get the process right. I just wasn't getting the results I was wanting. Everything came out great with M80. However, the front fender was from a different model and was the softest paint I have ever worked on. It was so soft the only way I could correct it and not instill swirls was to use a finishing pad (handheld ones) and DC1. The front fender was so soft claying left some crazy marring! The marring so bad it looked like I had wet sanded it.

I have since ordered smaller pads and backing plate and an EZ Detail brush. I'll be ready next time I do a bike.

I've tried a lot of stuff on grungy, etched aluminum H-D wheels. P21S Polishing Soap has produced the best, easiest results so far. Same stuff is available a LOT cheaper at H-D dealers labeled S100. Still need hand-polished after though. Red Wenol or Megs Mag & Aluminum Polish is a cut above everything else I've tried. KAIO or NXT 2.0 to seal and a dose of Collinite 845IW or 915 on top has produced the stoutest protection and luster I've found so far. I've actually got a better shine out of mine than the showroom new wheels after a few go-'rounds.

First thing I do when I buy a new sled is to polish and seal the wheels. Trying to get 'em back 100% after they've suffered is an exercise in futility. Then everytime I pull a wheel for new rubber it gets the full treatment while off the bike... a TON easier!

FWIW, the S100 Engine Brightener is tops on the wrinkle black on engine and tranny cases.

I hear you about the marring... all my paint on metal surfaces is like that. I've never figured out why it's such a pain and the fiberglass and plastic painted parts finish so easily. Can't imagine they'd use different CC on different parts, perhaps it just exhibits different properties depending on the material. :::shrug:::

Good move! Both the small & large EZ Details are excellent on bikes. I've got 3" tools for the rotary and an adapter for the DA. Tough finding good 3" pads though. I'm gonna try some Gloss-It's next.

At least after a rainy ride you didn't have to deal with the bugs that woulda resulted from a dry ride!
