Finally got around to using my new G220 so set aside a whole weekend to play around with it
I had previously done the job by hand and was looking foward to seeing the difference a power tool would make.
Day One - Saturday
I had to go and drop my family off at the airport, which meant I had to drive my car. By the time I returned home the sun was too high so I had to wait until mid afternoon for there to be enough shade to work.
One thing I noticed was that while the finish was quite reflective, the reflected image seemed to havea distortion similar to a honey comb patter, or what you often see on tv when they show a fly's eye view (it's the best way I can describe it as I have been able to get a photo due to being at work today). It seems to be all over the metal panels and being a new car I assume it's just a result of the sheet metal pressing process when the car was manufactured.

I had previously done the job by hand and was looking foward to seeing the difference a power tool would make.
Day One - Saturday
- Clean wheels with Hot Rims Non-Acid Wheel Cleaner
- Wash with Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo & Conditioner
- Clay half of car using Quik Clay Detailing System. Due to the position of the sun only one side of the car was cool enough to work on.
- Trialed M205 with 8207 pad and speed 5 on one panel and results appeared ok.
- Got around halfway around car and had to stop because my family wanted me to spend time with them.
I had to go and drop my family off at the airport, which meant I had to drive my car. By the time I returned home the sun was too high so I had to wait until mid afternoon for there to be enough shade to work.
- Having just driven the car it had picked up some dirt and also a few bug marks
Being late in the afternoon, I decided to skip the washing and just clay the car, including areas I'd already done.
- After claying I wasn't quite happy with the side I'd already done, so did another test panel with M105 on a 8207 pad at speed 5. I'm not sure whether I was doing it wrong or right but the finish looked good just with the M105 alone.
- Went round the whole car with M105. Unfortunately with the combination of a silver metalic car and bright sunlight it was near impossible to spot any swirls. As it all seemed to look ok I went onto the next step.
- M205 on 9207 pad at speed 3. Car looked even better and still couldn't spot any swirls despite my best efforts.
- Decided to do a full wipe down with a 1:1 diluted IPA solution to make sure all residue was gone.
- Started to apply #7 on 9207 pad at speed 1. By now it was starting to get dark and had to get the halogen work lights on. It was then that I started to notice a whole lot of tiny swirls
Too late to switch back to M205 so pressed on.
- Finished off with NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0 Liquid on 9207 pad at speed 1. I was suprised at how thin the layer of wax was that the G220 put on, compared to what I was used to by hand.
- Used Gold Class Trim Detailed on exterior trim.
- Cleaned up windows with RainX 2-in-1 glass cleaner with rain repellent.
