  • 2000 Ford Mustang convertible revived (50+ pics)

OK, so this is my first writeup on MOL that does not involve one of our cars. This car belongs to a guy that my dad works with who just bought it for his wife for her birthday. This car has been sitting in a field for the past 2 years or so, so it was a mess to be sure. It has a little more than 118,000 miles on the odometer. I spent yesterday evening and all day today on this car. Total time spent was between 14 and 15 hours. I don't think the pics do it justice. It looked worse before, and it looked a lot better afterwards. Oh well. This was a good experience for me anyway. Please enjoy and comment!

Convertible top, side mirrors, and cowl protected with 303 Aerospace Protectant
Ultimate Compound by hand on exterior painted surfaces
M07 Show Car Glaze on whole car
    NXT 2.0
Ardex Viper Wax on exterior windows
    Headlights with Headlight Restoration Kit
    Endurance on tires

Nice work Ceira, It looks great!

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

    I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
    Remove swirls my friends.

Nice work you did there Shane.

My initial thought after looking at the first pic was that it wasn't to bad, considering where it was for 2 years, untill you showed the close-ups.

How long did the correction process take you with UC? You work by hand?

Yeah, my pics make it look better than it was. There are still some water spots and scratches that were too deep for me to get out, but Ultimate Compound did an excellent of bringing the color back. And yes, I did everything by hand. I only did one pass since I didn't have a whole lot of time, and that took me around 2 hours.

              Thats certainly a great improvement

Best thing for you to do is get more work from the guy if he liked how this one turned out. When there is one car there is usually another.

By the way, how hard or soft was the paint? Most of the vechiles I have detailed are Ford and it seems like its in the middle.

How did Ultimate Compound finish out, LSP ready?

Some parts of the car seemed like it was softer, other parts seemed harder. The trunk was the worst part - lots of RIDS and water etch marks. I only got the light stuff out. The front and rear bumper are made of plastic, but even they brightened up. And yes, UC finished out LSP ready. If it were my car, I probably would have spent a lot more time on it trying to make it look better, but all things considered, I think it turned out quite nicely.
