  • DETAILED: GMC 2500HD Black

This past weekend I worked on a black 2500HD. Not sure what the weather was like outside Southern Cali but it was HOT to say the least. When I arrived I inspected the paint condition and I have to say it was well maintained with a few light scratches here and there. The owner has done a great job. We decided to go with the simple light polish and wax. The truck had just been washed by the owner the previous day so I just wiped it down and followed up with some mild clay and last touch. Few contaminants mainly on the horizontal areas.

Here is the truck upon arrival.

    50/50

The paint is visibly cleaned & cleared up

This shot was taken after NXT 2.0

The Hemin8r in the background. The wheel wells were later dressed and wiped down with HD.

Here is a shot of the truck completed. I would say about 70-80% of the swirls were removed.

These were all the after pics I got unfortunately. I was hot, tired and ready to head out after 8 hours.

Now here are a few things I came across:
You can work with M205 under the HOT sun and You can work with NXT 2.0 under the HOT sun with the G110. Do I or anyone else recommend it? NO WAY NO HOW!!!!!! The paint I'm not kidding had to be at least 120 degrees. I burned the palm of my hand when I was working on the top cab of the truck. I'm still waiting on my Canopy to arrive and the owners brought their patio umbrella out when I was near completion. So this was a tough detail. The owner did bring out a container with ice & drinks so they were great in helping keep me cool and from passing out. I returned the following day to work on their Suburban (Wash, clay, #66 and wipe down interior in about 4 hours again no canopy). I hope to get my hand on the Camaro in the garage
because it is swirled out pretty bad.
I never get this red. I used the MF around my neck after soaking it with ice cold water.

On my way home you can see the huge smoke from the fires.

Great turn-around! I dread big jobs like that on a cool day, then factor in the 100 degree heat we have right now...ugh, no way!

Now thats some sweet work Jesse. Sun shots, gosh I love them.

Hot sun huh? We've accustomed to hot climate. Even so,I still get sunburns sometimes on my cheeks and hands. I girlfriend always called me the red porkster after doing work under the sun. *LOL*

Nice job, that day looked like a furious hot weather...
Can't believe the fire still hasn't been put out... Really hope there aren't any MOL members being the victims in that area...

Thanks Mark. For some reason I've been getting alot of big trucks lately. with a couple more in line. I'm just glad they're not full paint corrections.

Thanks alot Tim. The "red porkster"? LOL, Good one. It's funny my arms are dark from the sleeve down. No way I'll walk around in public without my shirt on. Well, it may look like I still have a white Tee shirt on.

Thank you Ganesa. It really was hot and I was about 7 miles from the beach so we did get an occasional cool breeze. As for the fires little by little they're being controlled but it still may be some time before their fully contained.

Thanks J.A. No Way! . I think the Humidity alone would kill me. We're just spoiled here in Cali.

Nice work under very adverse conditions, Jesse!

Did you work on the truck all day in the sun? If so the surface temp was waaay over 120. We've taken surface temp readings of various colored cars sitting side by side on a sunny day and got the following readings:

                      White

                      Silver

                      Red

                      Black

And these shots were taken in the late morning during one of our Saturday Detailing 101 Classes so it wasn't even all that hot out yet! We've seen black paint reach 175F on really hot days - and you just experienced a really hot day!

Out of curiosity, how did the M205 and NXT behave under these circumstances? What did you see different?

ive done 2 cleanups on some ford f350 duallies... in the same day.. luckily it was just a wash and wax. no clay, engine detail and interior. they were work trucks trying to be sold again. i must say it wasnt the best. and it was only about 85-90 degrees out.. so kudos to you brotha for doing it in this weather... and on a black truck! where did u pick up that step scaffold thing? and how much if you dont mind. id like to have one for the future

                          Thanks again fellas!

Thanks Mike, I started working on the truck at 8am. The sun really started beating down around 11:30 and I finished up around 4pm. I agree on the surface temperature being way above what I initially noted.
M205 was worked a section at a time starting on all the horizontal panels first followed by NXT 2.0 and it worked well. I didn't notice any quick drying or anything out of the ordinary on the M205. On the side panels I worked in 12"x 12" sections, wipe off and move to the next section. After a panel was polished I waxed it and moved on to the next panel and so on. I would check up on the wax using the finger swipe test. Wax was dry in about 15-25minutes or so. I wanted to be sure it was fully dry to avoid any streaks. That seemed to work for me. I'm going to try and avoid this situation again in the future. It was really tough but I had a job to finish and as long as I didn't see the products acting funny I was going to tough it out.

Thanks! I bought it at Home Depot and it came out to $20 something. I got it a couple of years ago. I think the item was priced lower than it should have been. I should have bought 2 of them.
