Your post confirms what I've heard about HD-Cleanse - that it's kinda worth it but not really when M7 is so much easier to work with.
I certainly would not purchase HD-Cleanse myself. There are lots of other pre-wax cleansers out there. HD-C also reminded me of the Lusso Oro Revitalizing Creme--it too leaves behind a touch of wetness--but in my limited experience the latter is much easier to work with. Next time around, I might well try glazing the car with #7 immediately prior to applying Vintage. Why don't you try #7 with your Glasur, Justin, and see what happens?

      Al,

Luthien looks superb, although us "beer budget" dudes can only dream of such "champagne taste" waxes in our future! lol

I do use M7 with Glasur on my Porsche, and it comes out looking wonderful.

I find that I use less product when I apply glasur with my hands than I do with an applicator pad - about 4 grams less per waxing to be precise. There was a bit of a learning curve though.

Re: Luthien enters her Vintage years

I had occasion this morning to re-visit this old write-up of a detailing session with my Luthien. I don't contribute much to this forum anymore. My back simply doesn't allow me to work on my cars as much as I did three years ago. Plus, I don't experiment around with as many different products as I did back then. I know what I like. I know what seems to work for me. And I have enough stock to keep me until the next millennium.

This forum was very important to me when I first started detailing, and I'm very grateful to everyone who patiently answered my questions and helped me to learn some of the basics. I don't think I've really become much of a detailer, but I do know just enough to keep my Luthien looking good, despite the mileage I keep adding on to her.

Meguiar's products remain important to me. M205 and Ultimate Compound are my go-to polishes. Alas, my bottles of M80 and M83 are just sitting around. I guess I should give them to a local body shop, as I can't imagine using them anymore. I frequently use M40 to clean my rubber seals, and I occasionally use it on my dashboard. NXT car wash remains one of my favorite car washes. It's too bad it's no longer sold locally here in Roanoke. My claybar is Meguiar's and Last Touch my clay lubricant. I'm still working on my original gallon jug of APC+: I use it to clean my wheels, tires, wheel wells, and engine bay. I expect I'll be ordering a new jug fairly soon. And my D/A carries the Meguiar's label.

I no longer use Meguiar's waxes. This isn't a knock against the products. What can I say? I went through a wax phase, as many of us do, and I bought several boutique waxes. I kept hoping to find the holy grail. Well, that phase is now over, but I'm stuck with the waxes. It's going to take me a couple of lifetimes to use them all up. I still haven't opened my tin of M16. During the non-winter months, I use Victoria Concours Red (my favorite), Swissvax Smaragd, and Wolfgang Fuzion. I use Blackfire Wet Diamond as my winter sealant, and if it needs a boost I apply Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Wax (great product!). For my wife's CR-V, I use Ultima Paint Guard Plus. This wipe-on/walk-away product remains the easiest sealant in the world to apply. I don't know why Meguiar's hasn't come up with something similar.

I just want everyone to know how much I appreciate both Meguiar's product line and all the help Meguiar's and this forum has given me over the years. Thank you!

Great post, Al, thanks for taking the time to write that up. We appreciate all the time you have spent on MOL, helping other new users just as you had been helped previously. We don't hold it against you that you've decided to go with some other waxes - we know that's a personal choice and that there are a lot of great products on the market to choose from. This forum exists as an extension of our Customer Care Center, and it's not just for hard core enthusiasts (although we have a large percentage of those users here). MOL is about teaching, first and foremost, and we love it when the student becomes a teacher, just as you have. We think that's a large part of makes MOL such a great forum - people helping people, regardless of how inexperienced the noob might be.

                      Yeah, great post Al.

Let me know if you ever want to sell your "couple of lifetime's worth" of products lol... (even though I have a lifetime's worth myself!)

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.
