  • M105 Review

Finally gotten a bottle of M105 to try out. Many thanks to fellow Meguiar's Malaysia forummer KC for splitting the 1 gallon bottle with me.

So much has been said about the cutting and finishing ability of M105 so I was looking forward to trying it out.

    On with the review:

Washing the car with NXT Car Wash. (Note the lack of a second bucket. I prefer to hose off the wash mitt instead of using another bucket as I feel the second bucket tends to get quite dirty and it seemed easier to just hose it off.):

Clay after one section of the hood:

Drying the car with the Water Magnet:

    Taping off for the test:

    Malaysian 'Sun Gun':

Lots of swirls and scratches (it was quite a challenge to capture these on a white car):

Makita 9227C with Solo Light Wool Cutting Pad + M105:

    W7006 Cutting Pad:

Priming the Pad with the KBM method:

Finally with the Solo Heavy Wool Cutting Pad:

The M105 + W7006 Cutting Pad. Still some visible swirls:

The Solo Light Wool Pad still left some swirls so on with the Solo Heavy Wool Cutting. Result!!! Substantially less swirls:

Got done quite late at night but managed to take some shots of the car before calling it a day.

Thanks for looking. Comments are always welcome.

    Nice work.

your malaysian stun gun is similair to what I get here. So,i know how you feel.I can see well on a dark colored car, even in daylight, but light metallics.....oh dear.

    I've heard that...BMW paint...tough!

Anyway, you persevered...got rid of the swirls!

SO did you end with the M105 on the wool? No more finishing!? OMG that looks good!

            Thanks for the kind comments.

Actually the finish of the M105 was amazing but just in case, I did follow that up with M80 and finally topped up with NXT Tech Wax 2.0. (Sorry, forgot to put that in the original post). Its hard to see defects on a white car. I'm trying to get a hold of a black one next.

I think the bird that poo pooed on the car probably ate some.

I think the like shiny, white colored cars. Couldn't believe it when I got back to the car... Had to remove it with some Quick Detailer.

wow seech, long time never see you posting in other forum...and found you are here

M105 is good stuff...but i am curious with Solo Yellow wool it should be more than enough to cure your problem unless clear coat is hard....

Am not sure whether you notice where using W7006 (as the pad is aggressive-rough)..it created more swirl to your paintwork (from your picture)....

                      Just my 2 cents.

                      * Oh I saw 9227c

                        Dear Seech
thanks for taking time to test & write up the review

Thanks for splitting the M105, sharing the load

to M105 is a very good but too aggressive product , as this is not diminishing compound, where Meguairs used to preach on....while i was trying to remove some bulging sticker marks on a Honda stream clear coat, with a CCS lake country foam pad...it cuts like no body business & as i was over confident thinking this is a M85
                        i burn the clear coat.....

my adv....as it contain aluminum oxide, use sufficient & quick passes....stop & check prior continue cutting

                        :-)
                        cheers

                          Re: M105 Review

I find the sudden shift from diminishing abrasives to non-diminishing agents very strange, since diminishing properties are what Meguiar's prides itself on.

Well, it really technically wasn't a [complete] shift...but more of an introduction [in addition to].

It has been about a two year process as they have introduced new products that contain NEW technology. It isn't like the technology has been around and Meguiar's was simply choosing not to utilize it- it is a NEW technology that they finally found a way to harness.

Also, they do still sell MANY products that utilize a diminishing abrasive, it is simply that non-diminishing super micro abrasives are newer and better than what had come before them. It allows users to get more work done in less time with less guessing work (figuring buffing cycles for abrasives to be broken down, etc).

Sure, M105 can be dangerous because it is a 12 cut! But it should be treated as a 12, and not as M85 which is a 10 on the cut scale.
