When APC and APC Plus claim to be safe for leather, I wonder if they meant artificial leather or leatherette. As we know, the term leather is often misused by automakers to describe a wide variety of material, including leather imitation. My BMW manual advises against the use of any chemical on leather, and that only dedicated leather cleaner could be used.

      Mark,

      Great work indeed.

Just curious as to what your dilution ratio was on the APC. I've never used it on leather.

What was in this Bentley was certainly real leather. There was no note specifying not to use chemical cleaners, but regardless, the note from the BMW manual is a safety note... if there is a product that is deemed safe for leather but it is not a leather-only cleaner that doesn't necessarily mean you couldn't use it.

Then again, if you want to play it ultra safe you could stick to a dedicated leather-only cleaner.

It was roughly 10:1. I did a mid-session refill so it could be a hair off.

Also note that APC is not quite as strong as APC+, so the APC is moderately safe stuff. Considering I've frequently used APC+ on leather or leather-like substances with no ill-effects, it doesn't worry me.

Could one make the argument that you might remove the "protective" coating on the leather? Sure- but odds are if the seat is dirty enough that you need a cleaner like APC rather than something like D-180 it is probably already shot anyway.

If you think that it is too strong or don't want to take the chance- stick to the dedicated stuff.

Nice Car Mark! You did an amazing job on the interior. That APC did wonders!

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

          I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
          Remove swirls my friends.

            Mark,
The interior looks great. The 50/50 shots really show how dirty the interior was. Great work.

Nice work Mark! We had the opportunity to work on one of these at SEMA back in 2007 and they are stunning cars. Looking forward to seeing pictures of the exterior detail - the paint is really nice on those cars.

What's the difference between APC, and APC+? I have APC+ on hand, but it is the old blue formula. It can still be had around here for about 10.00 a gallon.

Great turnaround. In my experience I have found APC to bleach coated leather in a couple places. I have never used APC on uncoated, analine leather like the Bentley.

Very cool interiors, and great job!

                      Thanks!

I know what you mean because if you spray it directly onto some surfaces and let it sit it can look as if it bleached the area. If you re-wet the area and scrub it again it goes away.

APC will actually do that on virtually ANY surface.

I usually just spray on the towel to avoid that, and haven't had any issues.

APC isn't quite as strong, and it foams. The APC+ is more versatile and can be used with carpets that are using an extractor without creating too many suds.

For hand cleaning, they are very similar.

WOW D180 really changed the color of the leather to a nice brown

Wow, I was amazed how well those seats came out! So the APC got ALL the dirt of ALL the surfaces? Those seats are astonishing. The (curled maple?) wood looks spectacular. Man, that's a nice car, and a very nice detail! Great job.
