  • 1996 mazda mx5 nastiness.

my friend with the hot rod called me the other day to see if i could help out with his sons N reg mx5, he said it wasnt bad but needed a good sort out as he was selling it.
its just been to the bodyshop and could still do with a bit of TLC.
as hes a friend i agreed but said dont get your hopes up as if its had paint and its that old it could go pear shaped.
here it is when i arrived.

it was far worse than expected but i said i would help out and help out i did.
on with a pre soak of the lower areas, front bumper, wing mirrors, door shuts and wheel arches with duragloss APC.
pre-rinsed whole of car down ready for the VP ph neutral snowfoam mixed with apc.

whilst it was just finishing dwell time wheels were cleaned using VP billberry wheel cleaner and megs brush followed by swissol style brush.

then washed top to botom using gritgaurd bucket, zymol sponge and duragloss CWC.

    whole car rinsed.

straight on with the clay work, megs quick clay and megs nxt speed detailer was used.

    took some overspray off..........lovely.

whole car was nasty and contaminted.

another snowfoam, left to dwell for a few then thorough rinse.

dried with megs nxt speed detailer and megs water magnet drying towel.

taped up the boot and ready to sample the combos i had, firstly coolshine soft buff pad with faraclae smart swirl remover.

then beige soft buff pad with dodo juice lime prime.

the lime prime was behaving strangely on the day.
went smeary and greasy never had it before but after removing excess the dodo lime prime won again.
faraclae left side, LP right side.

no messing so got the car doen with a couple of passes of LP then it rained......lovely!
only breif so dried a panel at a time and used my cocktail of bodyshop safe polish ( no silicone or cut ) mixed with a cap of 3m finnesse it.

wasnt much fun but was coming up well.

vynil roof and all trims dressed with CG new look trim gel.

then waxed with orange crush and levelled with dodo red mist.

first time i had used red mist and found it a pig to work with unless the whole panel has a heavy coat and is worked with quickly.
tyres and arches dressed with valetex long life dressing, wheels sealed with smart rimwax.
anyway all in all went well but weather didnt help one bit, should sell now anyway.

the interior was well worn and hadnt see a hoover for quite some time so out came george and away i went.

brushing and dusting as i went along.

carpets had a good clean up with carpet and upholstrey cleaner and scrubbed with a megs brush.

good vac and finsh up on the carpets and seats.

plastics were very dull and needed something to liven them up.
not a huge fan of shiny dashboards but needs must.
came up quite good in the end.

    thanks for looking

thanks, it was a sample i had made but the underside is still a little harsh so im on the look out for larger towels so even when folded they are still a good handfull.

                nice work Scott.

Maybe he'll change his mind about selling it now

                I like the 3M finesse-it aswell.
