  • A few photos after detailing under my new canopy

Have yet to try my LGM on my carpet with my new super duty wet-dry vac/reclamation system. At 138in water lift/95 CFM it should pick up all the water leftover from the LGM's low suction. Tomorrow?

Canopy looks great, but not as great as your truck, of course.

I was staying with my parents in Largo last week and saw a couple of detailing trucks driving around that looked terrible. It must be good for business to have your truck done so nicely. Great job!
Let's make all of the cars shiny!

Hey, thanks Todd! I get a lot of compliments on it. Have to live up to the decals on the side.

Yeah, I don't want to be one of those guys that is so good and has so many customers they don't have time to keep their own vehicle looking good.

+1. Your detailing rig is your rolling billboard/business card. If a detailer showed up in my driveway with a mobile wreck, I'd pass on giving him the job. It's like a mechanic keeping his bay neat and orderly.

Nice work on the truck, the interior looks brand new.

pretty good considering its almolst fifteen years old?

what was your process for the paint?

Re: A few photos after detailing under my new canopy

Thanks, Tuck, Today I just wiped with quick detailer rotating the MF often! It was dirty, but with the canopy up and me and a neighbor not getting along too well and given the current water restrictions, I decided not to wash it.

Can I wash my truck at home during water restrictions being licensed? I don't know.

Anyway, two rounds with QD made it shine again and used another brand of spray wax (OTP?) It works quite well. I don't have any Meg's spray wax and didn't feel like working hard enough today to put more sealant or paste wax on it. HD 3:1 on the tires, trim and interior - several coats. I thought I'd try it a little stronger than 5:1 just to see. It's a little shiny for my taste. Wiped wheels with QD, M39 to clean the red Chevy emblems on the front mats, Accent Coating on the cowl, valence and rear bumper and Meg's Glass Cleaner. Plan to try my LGM w/heater on some soft drink and coffee stains soon.

I think I may have been mistaken in another thread where I said that I had polished the entire truck with PFW and M105 a couple months or so ago. I remember now that the driver's side and hood got as secon step with M205 on a polishing pad. I know the tailgate and right side was only M105 on PFW and it looks nice, huh?

To be totally honest, this truck only has 43,000 original miles on it. I've had something else to drive of one sort or another most of the time, so the interior, while I have been picky about it over the years, has not see 14 years worth of wear and tear. It's been abused on camping and 4x4 trips, though too. It's been in the sun for most of its life, so I'm proud of the way it looks. I always use a windshield shade. Believe it or not, I'm still using the same one I bought when I bought the truck in '96! It's getting ratty, but still performs nicely. It is one tough foil on that thing. I got into a fender bender last year though. Messed up the front bumper and right fender. I'm still ticked at myself for messing up what otherwise looks like a new truck. There have been plenty of runaway grocery cart scratches and door scuffs over the years too. The fender trim is all messed up from people's car doors. I plan to fix it myself this winter and have someone else spray the paint.

            Hey, have a great weekend!

I am a pretty big fan of 88-99 model years of those trucks. Yours only has 43,000 miles!

thats a very nice truck, I hope your enjoying it

Thank you sir! I enjoy everything but the gas mileage. I measure it in gpf. Gallons per foot.

Canopy looks great as does the Truck! Interior looks spotless! You really make me want to go and by myself a canopy as I have pratically no shade except later in the day down here. How bad is your mileage exactly? I know a guy who if I remember correctly once said he is lucky to get 15 mpg out of his truck I averaged 36 mpg in my civic when I drove to houston last summer

The truck looks great. You would not guess it is that old. Great looking canopy.

I agree, to be a detailer you have to come in a great looking vehicle. It is sorta like dressing for success. If you look the part at least you can get your foot in the door. Then your ability takes over.

I wish I could get 15. If I feather the throttle like a literally have an egg under my foot I might get 13. If I step on it at all it's down to 11 no problem. That was before I installed all my equipment in the back. They didn't have any trucks I liked with a 350 cu in small block Chevy and I needed a truck badly, so I got the 305. It does ok, but I thought that it would get a whole lot better mileage than it does. I can't figure it out. I've tried K&N, programmer, throttle plate and have cleaned the throttle body often. Nothing seems to help. I've been thinking of putting a small supercharger and headers on it. Then I might have something!

Oh man thats some bad mileage! But I can just see if you put some headers and supercharger on it you will want to floor it more to hear it growl and then be back to where you started Hopefully you get that fixed cuz that *****!
