    Re: 1979 Cutlass Calais

Thanks guys, I'm glad to see that there are other people out there that have love for the older Cutlasses. I am really crazy about how I keep mine, but I think pretty much everyone on this forum is too so I'm in good company.

You're right there! Looking at your pics, you're surrounded by modern cars. It's nice to be different. The interior is good too.

For a car that age,it's in really good nick!

Car looks great! I have to say my favorite parts are the back end and the wheels! The color also looks great! Like the others said I love seing well taken care of old cars. Went to a car show in town not long ago and was in awe of how poor some of the paints were. My dad who had no idea what defects used to be was spotting them out with the owners right there saying "oh look they have some swirls" it was so awesome. He doesnt wanna do the work but has become very very appreciative after I did his car

No lie...you know how many excellent dates began and ended in my grandfather's 1979 Cutlass (seats are like lounge chairs)? Enough to make me smile at this thread, that's for sure...

I get tons of questions when I enter a parking lot "is that a '80?" "how many miles you got on that beauty?" "where the hell did you find that?" "you got the V6 or the V8?". I happily answer them.

              Thank you very much.
I would love to find a 1977 black over red velour like my old one with bucket seats. If anyone knows of one let me know! Great job on your car, I wish I could get my 17 year old to take care of the truck I bought him. He washes it every month or so.

Man that sure is a beautiful car! I really like those older rear wheel drive sedans, RWD has such a wonderful feel to it

First new car I bought was a 1975 Cutlass Salon. Black with cranberry half vinyl, cranberry sport rims and cranberry interior. What a great car.

Indeed. I am not a fan of newer cars (anything in the past ~25 years) and I love having something one of a kind. A friend of mine has a '77 Monte Carlo and he says the same thing: individuality.

Thanks. I attend most of the local car events and I am appalled by the fact that people allow their beautiful classic collectables to be covered in swirls. The only car that comes to mind that was almost swirl-free was a 1972 DeTomaso Pantera, it was a frame-off restoration, custom made speed machine.

I'm 17, my parents think I spend too much time on my car.

Oh, I do. I actually find it pretty amusing when they are using Palmolive, an old dish towel and a single 1 gallon bucket to wash down their cars. They don't clean their tires. They hardly do much past vacuuming their interiors. No protectant. They wash in direct sunlight and don't dry their cars. No wax. No machines.
