  • NXT on the MGB (revisited)

I posted some pictures last March after I started using NXT on my MG (Click here).

Last month I drove the MG on my longest trip to a show to date, about 2000 miles 'round trip. I managed to wash it the morning before the show, then finished up with a quick layer of NXT - took first place.

This is a few hundred miles and three days later on Skyline Drive in Virginia, picked up a lot of dust but still looks good

...and at the show...NXTed the engine compartment, under the hood, cross-members, radiator, radiator bulkhead, under the trunk - and previously the trunk floor.

      Hi Vulturetec,

Congratulations on the First Place Win and thank you for sharing your results on Meguiar's Online.

I don't know if you saw the thread I posted on the status of NXT Tech Wax, but according to NPD, Meguiar's new NXT Generation Tech Wax is the Number One selling liquid wax in America this summer!

It's a great product that produces true show car results as you and so many others have proved and will continue to prove!

Wow!!! Your car seems to be really glossy... Did you just apply it by hand? Great results! Congrats also in your first place trophy.

Yup - always by hand, I've never touched a PC, etc. The car isn't even close to a daily-driver, it's strictly a Sunday-fun car. I usually spend a few days once or twice a year detailing it.

I wasn't really sure I was going to make this particular show this year so I didn't spend a lot of time on it. To prep for the trip I washed it (with Gold Class), and went over it with NXT applied with a foam pad. I also use NXT on the wheels (they're hammerite black and natural aluminum, clear-coated), and just about every other painted surface. Previously I'd been using a #20/#26 combo but NXT is a quicker way out and looks as good (if not better).

I took three days to drive from Florida to northern Virginia for the show (drove all the backroads, then via the mountains), and picked up a lot of dirt. To make matters worse the first day was through a lot of mist that pooled up dirt inside the engine compartment. If that wasn't bad enough I had a terrible spotting-problem with the car-wash before the show, so out came my NXT bottle...

...this isn't to really blow sunshine at Meguiars (really it isn't Mike ) but I had a friend with me and I was worried she thought I was a bit neurotic getting out the towels and wax, but after quickly going over the car with NXT and waiting 15 minutes I wiped down one fender and she was amazed at the glow (she's great, didn't ask questions before, and really understood after seeing the stuff work - she's buying NXT for her new truck). I did the rest, and the engine compartment - oh what a difference. The very best part was all the spots were completely gone, any little scratches blended into the background, and the car glowed - all with less than an hour's work.

Here are a couple more, on the return trip:

I've been off the forums for a few months and can't believe I didn't post an updated version of one of the pictures here. I edited those on my laptop when I was on the road and - WOW - what a difference a decent monitor makes... here's what the MGB really looked like up in the mountains.

A little more detail I left out: I original detailed the car (albeit not too carefully) in Florida but on the day of the trip to Virginia I had to drive for hours in heavy mist and fog, and then road construction. By the time I made it up north (two days later) the car was filthy. I gave it a quick wash in a local "spray it yourself" place, using whatever soap they have in the nozzle, hand-dried, then a few hours later went over the whole car with NXT Liquid (including all the chrome, wheels, and engine compartment), then I went over the tires with NXT protectant. The whole process was roughly an hour. The "mountain" picture was a few hundred miles and three days later - still glowing. Great stuff!!!
