  • Detailed: 1996 Ford Explorer (lots of pics)

This is my uncle's Explorer. It originally belonged to my grandparents until he bought it from them. It was really good shape, even though it is from up North (he lived in MN, now he lives in ND). He is here visiting us so I decided to detail it for him. There is 106,xxx miles on the odometer. I spent about 4 hours on the interior and the brunt of this afternoon and tonight on the exterior. Please enjoy and comment!

    Process

    Interior
Carpets and mats cleaned with USA Foam Magic carpet cleaner
Plastic lightly cleaned with QID, dressed with Supreme Shine
Leather cleaned with Sprayway Leather and Vinyl Cleaner, dressed with Tip Top Leather Conditioner
Glass cleaned with Auto Magic Ready to Use glass cleaner
Weatherstripping and leather on doors dressed with M40
Door jambs cleaned with Deep Crystal car wash and wheel/spoke brush and waxed with Cleaner Wax

    Exterior
Tires and wheel wells cleaned with Tip Top All Purpose Cleaner
Wheels cleaned with All Wheel Cleaner
Wash with Deep Crystal car wash, 2BM, microfiber chenille mitt
Clay with blue Clay Magic and Tip Top Wonder Shine as lube
    Wash again
    ColorX
    NXT 2.0

Wait a bit, do windows and trim

    M26
    Ardex Viper Wax/M135 on windows
M40 on mirrors and side steps
UC and Ardex Viper Wax on plastic trim by side and rear windows

    Wipe down with M135
3M Performance Finish on roof and front bumper (so the process was just ColorX and 3M PF on those two areas)
    PlastX on headlights

Hope I'm not forgetting anything in my process. I spent about 4 hours on the interior and the brunt of Thursday afternoon and evening on the exterior. Just had fun taking my time. I will apologize in advance for some of the pics: the interior ones were taken outside, but I had to take the exterior pics inside because I pulled it into the garage after washing and claying due to rain. Enjoy!

Hood shot (note the relative lack of orange peel)

Cowl, mirrors, and sidesteps dressed with M40

On the side, here's rainwater beading on my car after it's application of NXT 2.0 and M26 with Ardex Viper Wax/M135 on the windows:

Sorry my exterior pics stink. The lighting in the garage was not all that great for taking pictures.

Great work on the Explorer. The interior looks great. Hard to believe there is 106,000 miles on it. Way to go.

that truck looks in great shape. The interior came out great, especially the carpets. The exterior looks glowing as well.

No, that's just an axe handle.

Speaking of 3M's performance finish. Found some at a local NAPA autoparts store, and tried it out. IMO, awesome product! Applies like a boutique carnauba wax! Just like how they advertised it, WOWO and no streaking. If durability is anywhere in the range of 3-5 months, it's definitely going to be my quickie paint sealant. As much as I like M21 2.0, I'm still getting streaking issues no matter how much I shake, how long I wait, or how thin I put it on.

Detailers clean places nobody see. Detailer see's things nobody else see. But if you ask a Detailer to see how a dress looks on a woman, they are blind.
