  • Premium Detailed white 2002 Mazda Tribute (Interior)!!!

Yeah, this is what I had the displeasure (is that a word?) of detailing today. A white 2002 Mazda Tribute with just over 75k miles on the clock. The owner is a very heavy smoker and, well, just didn’t care about the interior of his truck (obviously!). He told me it had never been cleaned since he bought it new in 2001. He was having it cleaned up to give it to his son. He was just looking for clean so that’s just what I gave him! This is one of only a few details that I actually broke out the rubber gloves for, yuck! I was going to set off an odor bomb before I hit the road, but the owner told me it would be a waste because his son would just jump in and light one up as he’s a smoker too.

    Exterior:
    Wash with Dawn
Clay with Pinnacle Poly Clay 2 and ONR diluted as lube
    Waxed with OPT Car Wax
Tires were dressed with Meguiars Hyper Dressing diluted 4:1

    Interior:
    Vacuumed with Rigid portable vac
All panels and leather were scrubbed with Meguiars APC+
Windows were cleaned with ONR diluted as clay lube
Carpets and mats were cleaned with Purple Power full strength
Carpets and mats were extracted with Snap on (Mytee) extractor

    Here goes…

Nasty, right? I agree! I pulled the center console out of the car to really get it cleaned.

This was before I extracted the mats. I sprayed them down with Purple Power and then scrubbed and doused them down with water. This got most of the grossness out, but they were still badly stained.

Can you tell which side is the cleaned side?

    Now for some afters!

    Console reinstalled.

Ok, I am sure you are wondering if I cleaned those nasty jambs, but of course I did!

Now just a few afters of the exterior.

Thanks for taking the time to view my write up.

Awesome work you've done on that Mazda. How long did it take?

Im not sure how the owner sat in it without getting his clothes filthy. What do you mean replace anything? I didnt have to replace any interior parts if thats what you're asking.

Great turnaround. I'm surprised the Purple Power didn't eat right through anything it touched! I have a gallon of it (plus a couple bottles of 1:1 and 10:1) sitting around unused because that stuff is so strong! I've since switched to APC and APC+, but it's good to know that PP can be used FS on mats without disintegrating the fibers . Will have to try it like that on some nasty mats on this work truck that I'm doing tomorrow. Thanks for sharing!

Yes,i was meaning interior.Just curious as regards to the previous owner.I think i noticed(if i'm not mistaken) a door grab used as an ashtray.Point is,the leather seats came up really good.It really bugs me that buying a used vehicle with leather upholstery, where the owner has never treated the leather. Let's just say that these folks like cracked leather.

Yeah, I hear ya. The leather wasn't ripped or anything, but it was really in bad shape.

Awesome turnaround! Great job! Did you condition the plastic or the leather? Or did you feel that would be a waste of time since the son will probably trash it as well?

Amazing that the only reason for the detail was he was giving it to his son. Otherwise it was acceptable to be in this vehicle.

Awesome work. What a great transformation. Great work.

When the client and I had our initial consultation about the car he explained that clean is all he was interested in. I always explain the importance of UV protection for all interior parts and conditioning for the leather, but he was giving it away so he wasnt concerned about protection.

                          Thanks guys!

Hi Prem, thanks for the reply. After you finished the leather it was in pretty good nick. They really came back to life!I personally don't mind a bit of cracking as long as it's not excessive wear.I normally find the worst are low down sports models,as their more akward entry(esp.driver's side),produces more wear on the sides.
