Well, I picked up this hood for the detailing day. It has been repainted in single stage black with plenty of orange peel, scratches, and etching. But, it does have some potential...
Did you want some orange peel with that?

I started out by sanding with 1000 grit Abranet Soft to level the surface. Then, I moved to 2000 grit Abralon and 4000 Abralon to make the removal of the scratches easier.
For the scratch removal, I used M86 and a Solo light cut wool pad. I then removed the holograms using M205 and a W9207 finishing pad. Talk about true two step correction!

Still some significant etching and deep scratches, but they are way too deep to remove.

Can it get any flatter?

While this was a lot of fun to cut and buff, this procedure is not for use on a daily driver. The paint was sprayed very thick and really needed to be sanded.
You know you're obsessed with detailing when you develop a strong hatred for orange peel...
