  • Detail from He.. Part II

So as I was saying in the detailing by hand forum, I am doing my wifes black Focus and as of right now it's kicking my rear end! I washed and clayed it almost a month ago and did a test on the Ultimate Compound. It did diminish the swirls a good deal but there were still some staring back at me with a cheese eatn' grin

Since it's nice out today I decided to try to finish it off. I got off to a late start since we had running around to do. After taking a trip to the carwah....my only resource at this point.....I pulled my car under some nice shade...a tree...with bored birds and I began the daunting task to rid this car of the swirls, RIDS, scratches, and........ if ya know what I mean!!

    My method to the madness was this;
Ultimate Compound, 3 passess with plenty of passion....only 3 'cause I didn't want to burn myself out. DEFINATELY a noticible difference but there are still scratches and swirls.
M07, 2 thin passess, light pressure. again a big improvment and it seems to have knocked out a few more swirls.
NXT 2.0 liquid, 2 more passes about 45 minutes apart. In the shade it's dang near mirror perfect......but not professional perfect.

I only was able to complete the front right fender and right door completely. Started at 2 and finished at 7:30....pregnant wife wanted ice cream.....pregnant wife gets ice cream!

    Here are the pics!

I needed my wings....plus some jets for my wings....and you can't go wrong with some H2O.

I messed around with the bumper a bit with UC x3 passes. Befores and 50/50's

    NASTY!!!

    Practice makes perfect!.....Gotta keep practicing!

    My enemies!

    50/50's..ish

    Fender swirls greatly reduced.

    Up close.

    Sweet reflections!

    Knocking it out!

    In the sun.

Yeah I got a little careless..

Fixed it! Gotta love GC Trim Detailer!

This was a sign that it was time to call it quits for the night. They tore the car up....at least 10 impacts and then this....

Tomarrow I'm gonna try to take a crack at the hood and knock out whats left on the right side....and start on the left side if there's any time left.

Here's the current condition of the hood.

    Well that's it for tonight.
    I'll update again tomarrow!

            Thanks guys!!

Well today I knocked out the hood, finished up the right side, and got the rear bumper done (I have to redo the bumper, I didn't have any good light and once I look at the pics I noticed some marring from the mf towels).
Let's just say that my muscles are SORE!! This car is taking alot out of me but I'm having fun with it and I'm getting the wifes nod of approval!

I started around 10:30 this morning and finished up at around 7 in the evening. It took about 4 hours just to do the hood which looks 10 times better now. There are still alot of swirls to be found....I'd say I did 65% correction on the paint. There were also a few nice water etchings which to my suprise came out completly with the UC. So far I think things are going smooth for me, no real problems except the front bumper is shot, it's pitted everywhere from bugs, stones, rocks and whatever else has been thrown at it.

I'm tired now so I'll post the pics tomarrow morning(alot of them **** so I'll try to get some in the sun shots).
Tomarrow I'm gonna try to knock out the left side and finish up the rear end. I would like to do the roof with UC but I may pass on it.

Again thanks everyone for the comments, they are motivating!

Here are the pics from yesterday. She kicked my butt but I'm reasy for more!

The hood was in pretty rough shape as you say on the first day. I was able to knock out alot of this swirls and scratches. She also had some etching that went away fairly easy.
I used the same process as the day before and I think she came out sharp.

              Swirls w/etching

Nasty scratch that came out completely to my surprise!

              More etching..

              DONE!! After about 4 hours.

              Nice reflections!

Tried to get some in the sun shots.

The front bumper is severely pitted, I got most of the bugs off and tried claying it to get everything else out but to no avail.

The back bumper wasn't any better with deep scratches, nicks, and swirls galore....It did come out a whole lot better then the front bumper.

I was loosing light and after seeing these pics it looks as if I need to wipe it down better.

And here's some misc after shots.

That's it from yesterday. Today I'm gonna try to finnish the left side and rear door. I'll keep y'all updated!

Yup all by hand and everything but my head and legs are SORE! Hmmm maybe the pain lets me know that I'm doing it right...lol

I did the rear door today, Couldn't do much else so hopefully tomarrow I can finish it up if it's slow at work.

Re: Detail from He.. Part II Updated 4/27 & 4/28

                    Well I'm officially defeated.

Too busy today to finish up the left side and roof, weather is gonna be crummy at best for the rest of the week.

She's sitting in the sun now and the swirls are snickering at my......plotting on ways to multiply and make my life miserable for when I return to slay them.

I'll get some sun pics after work and hopefully get them up here this evening.

Don't give up. You are almost there. Once you get her done you will be proud of yourself.

What you have accomplished already is a tremendous improvement.

                        The reflections are fantastic.

                          Thanks Carfire and J.A. Micheals

I have to give up right now due to weather.....and once again the weather report looks to be wrong (said it's gonna rain all day....now seeing clear skys ), and my back yard is turning into a jungle so I gotta tame it!

I do plan on finishing her off this weekend if the weather cooperates and if I get out of drill on time.

One thing i know for sure is that if I never ran into this site, she would never have came out as close to what she is now after learning from you guys!
Looking at her in the sun yesterday I noticed that there were plenty of swirls left, but they looked more like cobwebs then the nastiness I started with. As this was my first attempt on doing paint correction, I must say I do feel a little proud of myself, and props go out to everyone who helped and guided me towards the right direction.

Again thank you for the comments and she WILL get finished.
