My friend brought over his car for some minor detailing free of charge.
The car was filthy despite being garaged most of the time. It's never been clayed. The last time it wore a coat of wax was over a year ago, and the last time it was washed was probably a few months ago.
I rinsed the car down and sprayed with Deep Crystal Car Wash using the Foamaster, then followed with the 2 bucket wash method.
I clayed with the Smooth Surface Clay Kit. In the end, it was about 75% smoother. No matter how many passes I did, the clay refused to pick the rest of the contaminants. I guess a more aggressive clay is needed.
Next I applied the Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner. Surprisingly, the applicator pad was reasonably clean afterwards. I remember when I used the cleaner on my own car for the first time, the applicator turned black and grimy.
Finally, I finished off with a thin coat of FX SynWax which went on and off like a breeze.
There were still some bits of road tar scattered about that couldn't be removed. (Can someone recommend a dedicated tar remover?) Friend was satisfied in the end. I thank him for entrusting me with his car
