  • Funny how this started...

As the title suggests, I thought I was going to install my new Wet Okole seatcovers in my Ranger and it turned into several hours hunched over scrubbing the carpeting of my parent's Honda Civic.

It was by no means a complete detail, but since I received my supplies from ADS yesterday I thought why not put them to good use? Long story short, my Dad is the type of person that sees a vehicle as a way to get from point A to point B. This car is going to need a lot of work, but that's for another day (and also one of the reasons I bought a DA)

Here's a couple of before pictures:

My process was APC 10:1 with a meguiar's interior brush, a bucket of clear water and some terry towels to blot up the clear water rinse. I didn't think I was getting all of the dirt out this way so I pulled out the Bissell and used it to pull up as much dirt as I could get.

Ultimately I used too much water so I had to prop the carpet up for a couple of hours to dry out (this was easy because I'd already removed all the sill trim, driver's seat, etc.) Once I got everthing back together a quick dash wipe with APC & QID and some GC on the front glass it didn't look too bad

Oh, and after all that I did manage to get my seat covers installed

Love the seat covers... they are so comfortable, but I guess I am a bit biased (had a set in my Ranger, and now the Focus too).

Good work. Most of the people I know look at their vehicles in the same way, to move from pt A to pt B

So far 3 of my close friends have the detailing fever thx to me. After doing a full detail on their car (using their help! with a good discounted price) they now wash their cars more than I do lol.

This might sound stupid but one of them did not even know how open the hood in his car

My dad would never let their vehicles get really dirty, but since I'm still at home I just clean them up for them, since I know what I'm doing and everything he knows is old school stuff (cheap car wash, dry the car with terry towels, Turtle Wax, etc.). I'm going to have to train him before I leave home . My 18 year old sister is quite the opposite. She only washes her car every 3-4 months, and if I were to say anything to her or even do it myself, she'd raise hell and Cain and send them after me . Can't figure it out. She says it's her job to clean it, but she never does it. Just laziness if you ask me. Whatever. It's her car, so it's her loss. I just hate to see a car get abused.

Oh, and I forgot to mention this - I have a completely different appreciation for what everyone here does!

Obviously with experience you get better at it (I won't say that it gets any easier) but I've seen some pretty amazing transformations on this forum. I'll never need to be a professional detailer, but if I can learn and develop a 10th of the skills of the average forum user here I should be able to cover my needs with ease.
