  • 300zx Engine Detail

I got a call from a previous customer who wanted to have just his engine cleaned up a bit. He's been thinking about selling it and wanted it to be presentable.
The grease/oil was caked on pretty good and was a bit stubborn to remove. Although it's not 100% it came out good with just a few scrapes here and there on my hand. There's not much room to move your hand in and around the compartment.

I started out masking the fenders, windshield and front end with plastic to avoid any staining by the chemicals. I followed up by blowing out all the loose debri and dust with compressed air. I then covered up any electrical connections that needed to be covered up. With the help of some degreaser, multiple brushes and HD I cleaned her right up.

Nice job. I really love those cars. If your buddy decides to sell it now, he'll certainly get more money for it. A nicely detailed motor usually indicates a very well taken care of vehicle.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Engine looks great Jesse. That should bump the price lil bit more.

I saw a pair of ballast on the bay. Guess owner gave it a hid kit (lucky its using projectors - minimize glare) ..

                            Great job Jesse!

The engine compartment in my daughters Chevy Cobalt looks about that bad and I was thinking of detailing her car for her in the near future. I am a little worried about run off from the engine staining the asphalt ( our street was just repaved ). Is this a concern?

Thanks Tim, yes they are HID's. I love these lights. I have them on my car as well and it's a world of difference.

Thanks Mike, Well before we started on his car he had it on his nice clean driveway. I had him move it down near the street just in case it did drip. Surprisingly there were no stains or mess. You may want to put down a tarp or something underneath the car to keep it from making a mess. Another thing you can use is a pressurized gardeners sprayer instead of a water hose. You'll notice that you end up using up less water.
