  • Detailed: K-Car - Metallic Purple

Finally I got a friend that does not mind his car being posted online.

Background: The car is rebadged model of the Daihatsu Move. Locally its called Perodua Kenari. The car had been repainted 2 months ago from Red to Metallic Purple.

The owner was not satisfied with the outcome as he mentioned that the reflection was blurry. So after a length discussion, he settled for a simple detail session.

As I was pressed for time, pictures are in very small numbers. Plus, weather was not great, sunny in the morning and started to rain in late afternoon till night time.

Spent around 20 hours on the car (2 days span) and polishing more like 8-10hours.

    EXTERIOR -
    BEFORE (taken at various time)

Interior glass was quite dirty. Lots of grime and spots of sticker residue.

Deep scratch on the hood. Owner had dogs and cats so this is the effect

Closeup. Checked - paint was quite thick (300+ mic) and with a microscope, some parts of the defect reached the original paint (red).

Lots of them in the interior. Not sure how one can drive around town with them crawling inside your car.

    Swirls

Water spots.. Similar case on all windows.

More deep scratches on the front fender (both left and right)

Polish/wax residue. Might be from the bodyshop.

    hmmm

    mmmm......

    INTERIOR BEFORE

    Eeeuu...

There's a blue spot on the rear seat. Not sure what it was though. I even found some adult "stuff" in the back pockets of the front seats..

    First, I process the interior.

    Quick Summary

    • Thorough vac on the interior (agitate carpet, nooks, dials, switches etc - to free up dust then vacummed)
    • Mats were brushed, vacuumed, then scrubbed with APC (on various brushes) then extracted via machine (on hot water)
    • Pedals were clean with APC (on various brushes)
    • Seats and fabric door panel - same process as mats.
    • Vinyl - wipedown with APC then dressed on M40
    • Door jambs - cleaned with APC
    • Interior windows cleaned with Detailer's Glass Cleaner.
    • Sprayed M23 Odor Eliminator (once seats and mats were dry)

Here are the end results (sorry for the blurry pictures)

Door sills were still dirty as I only clean them after all the seats and mats were done.

Seats were later on rebrushed to give it a more even look.

Blue spot remain even after heavy doses of APC (4:1) and APC+ (4:1) plus extraction on hot water. Machine sucked out alot of blueish dirt but can t clean it 100%

Miss a spot on this shot. Dust on the horn button was later cleaned.

After that, I moved on to cleaning the engine. Sorry didnt took any before shots, only afters.

    Summary:

    • Pressure washed to remove loose dirt
    • Sprayed SuperDegreaser via Foam head sprayer+various brushes (dwell for at least 3 minutes)
    • Pressure washed again
    • Dried with compressed air+ generic MFs
    • Rubber were treated with HyperDressing
    • Cover on the Ex Manifold was untouched - as per owner

    Here are the pictures

Moved on to cleaning the exterior part of the car.

    Summary of the process:

    • Pressure washed to wash off loose dirt
    • Pre foamed on Hyperwash
    • Rinsed
    • Washed with Hyperwash (2BM - GG)
    • Wheel, tires and wells were cleaned with APC, S. Deg & Wheel Brightener (on various brushes)
    • Pressure Rinsed
    • Clayed via Meguiars Blue
    • Exterior windows and windscreen were polished on Rotary+M04+yellow pad
    • Rewashed on Hyperwash
    • Dried with 2 water magnets
    • Once dry, taped all seams, rubber seals, etc.
    • Did few test spots and found paint was quite easy to polish
    • Opted for M83/M105 for RIDs and finishing with M80 - all on Rotary.
    • LSP on M21 2.0 via DA (2 coats) - body and wheel
    • All windows and windscreen treated with 2 coats of RainX
    • Front Headlights were slightly oxidized so PlastX+yellow app pad
    • Tires on All Season Dressing
    • Wells on All Season Dressing
    • Chrome Exhaust Tip - cleaned with Megs Mag & Alu Polish

    Some pictures during the work

I had a hard time trying to catch the water spots on the windscreen. So, to heighten the difference between the polished and non polished, I wet the windscreen with Detailers Glass Cleaner

Scratches too deep to fix. Only rounded up the edges via M105 & M80 to somewhat make it less apparent.

    Front Hood

Under fluorescent light - spot the diff in contrast

    Under Hi Lumen LEDs

    I like this shot

M21 2.0 & RainX both waiting to dry.

Once everything was done, pulled it out (sorry cloudy day) and at the same time, owner came to take the car.

    Thank you for viewing.
