  • No Snickering

This is my desert beater, 1979 Jeep CJ7, The paint is my backyard special single stage acrylic that's about 5 years old. It tends to oxidize after just a couple of months in the sun out here.

Today I went out and washed and clayed, then broke out the rotary with some DACP. then a quick buff with some #7. and a final coat of NXT. I will put another coat on tomorrow.

This is a first time with NXT, so it will be a good test to see if it will not oxidize as fast.

NO! there are no close ups, there's way to many scratches, and now I have s few old rust spots popping out. Plus a couple of small bondo area's that should have been sanded a little better.

    Hey, at least it's RED

Hey Desertdawg! What's up? What do you mean Oxidized?? Hahaha! Looks shiny man! Gotta love red that reflects! Did you pull red when you used the rotary or the G-100?

I only used the rotary, and yeah, I ended up with some red on the pads.

I didn't take any before pics, but they would have been ugly, a little oxidizing, and some water etching...

BTW, I was just told to make sure you all know my daughter was helping on this too.

Naw, I don't think it will fit in with a bunch of Ferrari's. the steel pipe bumpers might be a dead give away....

          Thanks.

              For hauling beer....what else

Well, back when my daughters were younger, we would go on jeep treks out in the desert around here, and on the overnight trips I couldn't fit me, the wife, and 2 kids in it with all of our camping stuff, so I made a rack to carry the ice chest and usually a couple of 5 gallon gas cans strapped to the sides of the rack. All the sleeping bags and tent, clothes and tons of female stuff went inside with us.

They now sell racks almost like this in all the Jeep catalogs. I guess I should have sold my idea years ago....

                Hi Desertdawg,

Good combo for a single stage, I don't know what it looked like before, but it sure looks like it has wet paint now!

                  Thanks Mike,

I was thinking of using this as my test bed for some wet sanding, do you know how well the single stage acrylic will hold up to a little rough work?
I put on at 5 coats of paint the last time I sprayed it, and there were a few coats under that from the first time I painted it.

As you can see in this picture, the center of the hood has quite a bit if orange peel, notice the reflection is real muted..
