M205 - First Correction Project - 2005 Black VW Passat
Re: M205 - First Correction Project - 2005 Black VW Passat
Great review Rasky!!!
I found results similar to yours in using the rotary and the Flex. I got the chance to clean up my black car this weekend, it had some light scratching, but too too bad. Is has been a while since it was polished. I used 205 on the rotrary with a black Softbuff 2 finishing pad at 1100 Rpms, (on my Flex rotary, that's as slow as it goes) removed 95% of the light scratches but still had maybe a very slight haze from the rotary, so I then followed it up with the Flex 3401 and a black Solo foam pad and used a slower speed of 4.5 and WOW. 205 is incredible, definitely will be using it from now on. Wish I could have gotten pictures, but dont have a good camera right now.

Good to hear Tom!
I would like to do some more playing around with different speeds, time, pressure...
How long were you working a section with the rotary?
Re: M205 - First Correction Project - 2005 Black VW Passat
I am thinking it as about 3 passes? The polish stays white and workable, but I noticed when it finally did start to dry when i buffed it too long, it still stayed white, that's when I noticed a little dust, but I know I worked it too long. It didn't really change to clear as say 80 would. My first and only time with it so far, so I am sure there are things to learn for me. Someone mentioned slowing down the Flex with softer paints (might have been you or Justin) and the finish came out like glass... No marring at all and I had two 500 watt halogens behind me on it.

I only asked because I noticed how long Dave KG was working it in when he did his review. I wonder if maybe I should be working it in longer???
I did notice a difference between the rotary and FLEX too. It could have just been the difference in pads choice, but the polish turned more clear looking with the FLEX after a few passes than with the rotary. I was running at a speed of 1200 on the rotary and a setting of 4 on the FLEX.

Rasky
Rasky,
I was using a new Softbuff 2.0 finishing pad on the rotary and a new Solo foam finishing pad on the Flex, so my pad choice was similar. I made the determination after about two test areas to go back over it with the Flex. The rotary though even with a finishing pad and a slow speed did nice correction work. I've never been one though that has been happy with my own abilites and results to finish black vehicles with a rotary, but I've read where others do.
