  • 2004 Toyota Tundra exterior buff and wax. sorry no pics

I have no pics b/c the owner did not want his truck on the internet but I wanted to share my process amd tell about what it looked like. This truck was a outdoor truck, dark gray, and it had some of the nastiest water spots I have ever seen, it was all along the bottom. Looked like acid rain. I had to drive down to elk grove to do it and he also paid me gas money. It took me 5HRs. I spent a hour per door or panel to complete it. I charged him 80 bucks, he was very pleased, reason why I chared $80 is that in some spots the water spots were still visible even though I got rid of most of them and he told me to try to get them all out, but I could not so I did not want to over charge him, Now his nephew called me up and wants his 07 G37 (Black) detailed exterior only. And I have another one 03 mach1 in the next two weeks. My business is starting to jump a little.

    My process
    1) UQD to wipe it down, the owner said it was just washed earlier that day.
    2) M83 was not aggressive enough, I wish i had something stronger. but 83 did the job it just took a little longer. I spent so much time on this. I got the spots all the way out to almot gone.
    3) 2 coats NXT 2.0 and man does it shine now.
    4) tires dressed
    5) I tried to clean the wheels but something etched them and I could not get the etching out, the owner said not worry about it.
    6) blacb plastic dressed GC trim detailer.
    7) He wanted his windows wiped down so I had eagle 1 20/20 with me.

maybe its time to get a more fuel efficient car with a bigger trunk to better accommodate your extending range and more equipment because those mustang trunks are pretty small and not the most fuel efficient thing out there...

i may suggest a tonneau covered i4 ranger or a escort wagon... either one is cheap to acquire and some what fuel efficient and have large cargo areas and a ford since you are a ford fan

The trunk is actually a good size but I can't fit any buckets in it. I am thinking if I can I would get a old Ford ranger for cheap I am thinking 400 bucks and put a rattle can paint job on it with my detailing business name, but this is what I am thinking of doing, I would have to get a lot more business then just three cars. My mustang is fine for now but I would like to get a old Ford Ranger, A friend of mine bought a salvage title ranger for $300 and hit a cow and deer with it and it still runs it just drives crooked.

...an old 4 banger single cab Ranger, or a used Focus wagon or hatchback should do the trick.

I have a ZX3 Focus and I can fit everything I need for mobile detailing aside from a water tank. (I have a fairly large box for 2 12s taking up space, too.)

I am glad your business is picking up. Way to go.

I like the story of your friend hitting the deer. The truck runs, just a little crooked now. lol That is to funny.

Thanks guys for the comments. I have a friend that wants to join my business and he wants to be my apprentice. The only problem is that if I teach him how to use a DA and how to thouroghly clean a car inside and out, and then he could leave my business with experience and be my competition. Not sure what to tell him.

              You need to charge more...

Something like that should have been around $150.00 plus something for gas and driving time.

                Happens all the time...

Nick tried hiring employees and Joe has had his share of employees or partners, or helpers and it never seems to work out or last very long...

Once you train a guy how to detail a car and they get a little experience under their belt it doesn't take long for them to figure out they could do this kind of work without you.

Yeah I am going to up my prices. Just because it has to cover like you said Mike gas and driving time and also product and Labor. I still want to be competitive, I have called acting as a customer a couple of local detailers and they are charging around 300 to 400 dollars for a complete detail. So I am thinking 180 to 200 dollars for my buisness to stay competetive. But my friend has asked me to detail his car for money so I can get another detail. I am goign to be posting more flyers around my area and in some gated communities, hopefully to gain some buisness.

Something I've done is make some business cards and spark a conversation with potential customers no matter where you are. Telling them how great their car looks, how much potential it has, how they can protect their investment and giving them one of your business cards. It's not only more personal then a flyer but it gives you an opportunity to introduce yourself and answer any questions they may have. Don't get me wrong I'm all for flyers as well but this was just a suggestion.

Awesome! Same program I used. Shop around for places to print them. Places like Kinko's are very over priced! There are a lot of online companies that do them for a fraction of what Kinko's charges.
