  • 3 Coats NXT and Silver POP !

This weekend I cleaned up my Mom's 2002 Toyota Tacoma truck while she is out of town. I didn't really have a lot going on (surprisingly), so I was able to get three coats of NXT on the truck. What I did was:

    Gold Class Shampoo
    #83 DACP applied by PC
NXT also applied by PC X3, one coat a day and drying/curing for minimum 30 min.
Megs Natural Shine (I think that's what it was) for all rubber trim and the tonneau cover
    Stoners Invisible Glass for windows
    Hot Shine for Tires

This picture was taken in sunlight, and really shows the POP of the metal flake in the silver:

Here is a front shot. NXT really makes it look wet...:

Here is a reflection shot of a utility pole, and please ignore the golf ball dent picked up on the freeway earlier this summer:

I am not a very good photographer, but I am still learning and trying to "get" the whole lighting thing. I was losing sunlight quick, and just wanted to snap a few shots before the sun went down too much, and I have to bring back her truck.

    Hi Matt,

Your work looks great. I have always had excellent results using NXT Tech Wax on metallic finishes, and at almost everyone of our Saturday Detailing Clinics there is usually a metallic finish in the group and we often demonstrate these results on these finishes for others to see.

When Tech Wax first came out, a few people stated their opinions that Tech Wax, muted, or muddied the look of their metallic finish. Maybe in their results, but I've never seen it myself and now I own a black 04 Honda Pilot with a [b]Nighthawk Black Pearl finish and unless the finish is clear it's hard to see the flake because the basecoat is black and the flake is small. But in the right light, it jumps right out at you.

Tech Wax, like all Meguiar's waxes restores clarity and richness to the finish, this enables your eyes to easily see what's under the clear coat whether it's a standard color coat, or a metallic finish.

    Good job!

Dern!!! Very nice. Awesome relection and depth for silver. Good work. The metallic flake has some pop.

One of my clients loves the NXT I use on his GMC. He's noticed a big difference in depth from his paint. Black of course. He said other shops never made the truck looks as good. He won't let anyone else touch his ride now, just me and the NXT.

looks great! I have always like the look of metallic but sometimes it can be hard to make stand out.

Hard to say. After 2 coats, which was noticeably better than one, I figured I had the time "so lets try three". There might have been a subtle improvement. I almost wonder if it's a more "in my head" improvement as opposed to one that can be seen.

I will say that going from one coat to two is most noticeable, even to the untrained eye of my wife who said " I didn't think you could get it any shinier".
If you are going to use NXT, definietly plan on at least two coats.

Hey, five days later I stopped by my Mom's house and the truck looks as good as the day I took off the third coat. My Mom said that her truck didn't look that good the day she bought it. (That's twice I've been told that compliement by people whose cars I did. )

But it definetly looks great after you did the job...
the curing you say about of NXT tech Wax was this inside or outside a garage.. i would like to know if you have diferences then... or is it just quicker cured outside in normal temperature?

All the polishing and waxing was done inside my garage. It actually started barely drizziling out and I quickly moved into the garage. It was fairly humid out as well. I applied the wax and let it sit from a minimum of 30 minutes, and closer to 45 min/ hour.
