  • Cleaning the engine -Gunk'ed

Today I have had ago at tiding up the cars engine (seems to be worse now it lives outside to make way for my dads car, I tried a product I hadn’t used in a long while ‘Gunk’ an engine degreaser, I must stress time was short and it wasn’t a perfect job, but looks better I think.

    The process was:

    · Run Engine to warm, but not to normal temperature
    · Wrap all connection in cling film
    · Spray Gunk on and allow 5 mins to penetrate the dirt and grease and can agitate with a brush also.
    · Rinse, Then ran the engine while rinsing the drive way
    · Followed by a quick drive to aid the drying process.
    · Surfaces were spray waxed, and plastics or rubbers dressed where possible.

nice job. I love cleaning engine bays, I shocked my Sarge when I detailed his Explorer with over 100,000 miles on the clock, his jaw dropped! Looked new.

        Great job, looks new indeed!

thanks for the comments, it was lookin a bit dirty for a car with sub 40k miles on, i used Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber Care for the plastics, it doesnt last as long as Trim Detailer on the exterior parts but as with all Autoglym is simple/effective and targeted for the average car owner

Looks kinda clean for a car with 40k I thought. Then again my engine is often covered in mud..

Engine sure has a small belt.

on the engine clean. "gunk" - never tried that product before but does it stain white on the paint surface and/or rubber?

              Cheer,

thanks, yeah i assume the belt is quite small, its only a tiddly engine but cracking to clean with having so much space around, its got a 1.2 with 16v and a overwhelming 75 bhp! 0-60 in 13 seconds, it does the job when petrol is currently at 115pence per litre, so its advantages are group 3 insurance (out of 20) and does 49mpg.

it does a good job of cleaning grease and grime from some places without agitation which is good, other need a bit of encouragement, i am a little uncertain as to whether it didnt rinse it of enough of if it the result of water drying in the sun (back to rain today usual weather of England), i wiped the plastics with QD, came up all right but the Gunk clearly removed any trim detailer from the last engine detail. i did the same with the paint wiped and then spray waxed.

A word of Caution is it states not to be used on clear coated surfaces, i did a test spot, and the paint under the bonnet i am certain has no clear coat, its not the same quality as on the exterior.

I have also been told by the Administrator on the Meguiars UK forum an Engine Degreaser and Dressing is on the way soon... (see bottom of post)

Renault is one of the biggest car manufacturers in Europe. It is a French company.
