  • Black 2001 Infinity J30 - first gig!

AudionutMike and I teamed up with our young apprentice to detail this black Infinity J30. Although it was well taken care of, it needed a lot of help!

    Our process:

    Exterior
2 bucket wash with Foam Canon and GC car wash
    APC+ 4:1 on the engine
All Wheel Cleaner on the wheels
Clayed with Meg's Smooth Surface Clay kit
M105 + purple foamed wool @1500 RPM on the rotary
    D151 @ 5.5 on the Flex
    BlackWow on the exterior trim

    Interior
APC+ 10:1 on the interior and carpets
Meg's rubber and vinyl condition on the vinyl
Meg's leather conditioner on the leather seats
    LGM to extract the mats/carpets

    Headlights
    Wetsanded with 2500 unigrit
    Wetsanded wtih 3000 unigrit
    M105 via PC @ 6 on 4" yellow pad
PlastX via PC @ 5 on 4" white pad

    BEFORES

    Scratches:

    Lots-O-swirls:

    Frankenstein-ish scratch repair:

    Cloudy headlights:

    DURING

Testing revealed the best combo to be M105 on the rotary with a purprle foamed wool pad followd by D151 with the Flex on a white pad. This paint was HARD!

    Apprentice hard at work:

Wetsanded scar with 2500 followed by 3000:

    AFTERS

    The apprentice's first lesson: Headlights!

The Voices will be stunned that I'm not wearing my lucky Pink Floyd detailing t-shirt!

    Th-th-th-that's all folks!

    Thanks for looking

      Oh yeah! byebye swirls

btw, did you do any paint touchup on the scar?
looks like when you wetsand the area, scar dips down the surrounding paint.

Thanks Tim We didn't do any touchup to the scar, just some light wetsanding to try and blend it a little better.

You are correct though, the majority of the touchup was below the surrounding paint.

                Great job.
Man that paint was badly swirled! Great job removing it.

                  SWEET!

Engine compartment looks GREAT! I like how you taped off a couple of sections for testing... something I don't think about is how different surfaces and blemishes require different product & actions for the best results!

And... I don't believe that was you in the reflection, as I don't believe you didn't wear the PF shirt!
The only reason some people get lost in thought... is because it is unfamiliar territory for them.

                          Nice job, car looks great.
If its fast, loud, and runs on a flammable liquid...count me in.

Just to add a little bit more...
We were amazed at exactly how hard the paint was. We couldn't get any more aggressive without wet sanding the whole thing!! I will echo what KerriNJeff has said before. The more I use 151, the more that product impresses me.
Has anybody else worked on this car before or other Infinitis' with this hard of paint? if so, what products did you use on it?
I'm hoping to upload the after shots of the interior tonight. It was a turnaround on par with the exterior.
Thanks for all the positive comments.
The power of the flex compells you!!!
