Ok, first off I want to say I spent around 45min typing up a thread on saturday. I clicked on "preview post," read over everything making sure I didnt word anything wrong, then closed the window out!!!

Ive been putting off doing a full polish on my Jeep but finally got around to doing it. Im kinda ashamed that I hadn't done it sooner but I guess its better late then never. I was/am not looking to remove 100% of the swirls but just to take out the minor swirls and scratches. Some people may know that I use to take my Jeep offroad regularly so there are some mild scratches on the sides which did not come out but thats ok, Im kinda proud of them.

I started out with a wash using Megs GC soap. I didnt wash the engine or underbody since it really didnt need it but I will be going over the engine with MF's to remove some minor dust then give it a coat of hyper dressing.

So far Ive been claying, polishing with #80 once via PC with a LC white pad, then hand applying a coat of NXTv2. Its pretty amazing how easy it is to remove the swirls with the PC and #80. Its taken me around 3 hours to do the hood and entire drivers side which includes claying and taping off. I hand applied scratch-x on the entire front end(bumper, grill, etc) since working with a pc on those parts is impractical on my Jeep. I have not polished or waxed the front end yet but I will do that tomorrow. Tried some scratch-x on the headlights, park lights, and fogs lights and was pretty amazed how good it did on them. I have plastix on hand but wanted to see how that would go.

Here are some before pics. I tried my best to capture the swirls but its kinda hard to do in a garage.

The worst of the swirls were around the door handles since the brush gathers up around them.

I believe this is the C pillar. The pillars and the area above the doors were really where I wanted to make sure the swirls were removed. When walking up to the Jeep thats usually face level and they always annoyed me.

    C pillar after:

I was having some troubles with #80 gumming up on me and Ive yet to figure out whats going on. Idk if Im not using enough product or what. When I did the hood I tried speed #6 which immediately made it start gumming but on the entire drivers side I kept it on 5 which seemed to reduce it but it still throws it everywhere, especially on the plastic bumpers. I found out real quick that setting those 1000watt craftsmen lights to close to the paint actually heats the paint up a lot! I thought that may also have something to do with it.

Another problem I had was #80 NOT coming off my rear bumper cap. This was the area that was sitting close to the lights but it was only warm, I could easily hold my hand on it. At first I tried running the PC over it again then taking the #80 back off immediately but that did nothing(FYI, I never let #80 dry). Claying nor QD would touch it but if I swiped it fairly hard it would come off. Sorry for the blurry pics, it focused on the lights.

Scratch-x ended up bring it off.

The hood has some mild water spotting which I am not interested in removing. I guess sitting around in a dorm parking lot for 2 years got the best of it. I also made a boo boo on the hood. I was moving the PC around to spread the product out before I turned it on when the side of the pad caught which pulled the pc out of my hands. You can see the water spots too.

Some afters of the hood, I didnt get any befores of it.

Ive not got a good reflection shot of in the paint yet since Ive not pulled it out in the sun since I polished some of it, but here is a reflection in the glass... In the midst of polishing.

Ill be finishing the rest tomorrow and through-out the rest of the week. Pics of it all finished out of the sun will come later.

Looks great! Can't wait to see the sun shots!

Only time I've had #80 really gummed up is when my pad was getting too dirty. Make sure to clean it on the fly and if it still is getting gummed try a fresh pad.

I'm with you on the Jeeps not being 100% perfect. However if you saw mine I might get kicked off MOL! lol I'll get around to polishing it someday.

Very nice!! As I'm typing this in the garage, the Jeep is just about done with a detail job. Tons of off-roading/mudding lately with no washes for 2 months about...killing me.

What do you use on your plastic molding like mirrors and door handles? I use ASD but yours looks way better!

                        Re: 04 Jeep Liberty

                        Thanks guys.

Believe it or not Ive not put anything on the mirrors in along time. Its probably been over 6months since I put anything on those and I believe I used GC trim detailer last time. Of course its worn off since then but they still look great.

On the door handles and roof rack(where its plastic) I used hot tire shine gel. It holds up better than anything else Ive tried but is a little on the shiny side at first. I put it on really thick and let it sit for awhile. Then I came back with a MF and wiped off any excess I could, they look pretty darn good. Wish I would of gotten a close up of those. Hot shine also works great on the mud flaps but I did those a few weeks back so Ive not put any on them yet.

Didnt do a lot on the back yet. I keep the key to my rims in a tool bag in the back of my Jeep but took the tool bag to a boat which is on a lake an hour away. Couldnt take the wheels off to detail those nor could I take the spare tire off the back to polish all the paint back there.

Nice job on the Liberty. How do you like the Liberty and has it been reliable? I actually like that body style better than the new model.
