First G220 detail
I finally got around to the first detail with the G220. A colleague at work asked me a while ago to detail her car for her, and I promised her that her car would be the first one to get the G220 treatment. This weekend was the big day and I had another local Meguiars enthusiast (Siya) come over and join in the fun. The owner dropped the car off at 09h30, and after some chatting and coffee, I got down to work at about 10h00. The process followed was as follows:

Paint condition before

Paint condition after M85 and M80

I finally got around to the first detail with the G220. A colleague at work asked me a while ago to detail her car for her, and I promised her that her car would be the first one to get the G220 treatment. This weekend was the big day and I had another local Meguiars enthusiast (Siya) come over and join in the fun. The owner dropped the car off at 09h30, and after some chatting and coffee, I got down to work at about 10h00. The process followed was as follows:
- Started with the wheels - cleaned with Wheel Brightner
- Tried something new with the wash step - first misted the car with a mixture of Last Touch (diluted 1:1) and GC Shampoo. This did lift the dust and grime from the paintwork, which was hosed off. The car was then washed with my favourite - GC Shampoo
- Car was dried with two water magnets, and used a compressor to blow dry some of the usual nooks and cranies that trap water
- Evaluation of the surface indicated that claying was not required (it was at this point that Siya arrived and we chatted for a few minutes before continuing
)
- Between the two of us we did several test spots to determine which product to use. Started with M80, but it was not quite cutting it (if you'll excuse the pun). Bumped it up to M83, which was better and removed most of the hazing and swirls, but revealed quite a bit of random scratches. We then decided to bump it up even further, and even though Meguiars does not recommed M85 with a DA, we used it anyway. It provided better results and was probably the best we could expect without switching to a rotary. I then buffed the car out with the G220+W8006+M85 combination and Siya followed close behind with the Makita 6040+W8006+M80.
- Siya treated the door jambs and wheels with Cleaner Wax
- Windows were cleaned with NXT Glass Cleaner
- Trim treated with either M39 or M40 - Siya did it, so he can confirm
- LSP - M21 applied with the yellow foam applicator
- Tyres treated with Endurance Gel
- Final step was an application of UQD.
