  • 2005 Mountaineer, all by hand

This is my first write-up, and the first time I've detailed someone else's car. It looks really good, not quite what I'd like, but the owner was almost giddy when he saw the result, and I did it all by hand. My shoulder hurts now!

    Process:
    INTERIOR
GC vinyl treatment on dash, door panels, and center console
    CG leather treatment on seats
    Stoners glass cleaner
Armor All wheel cleaner used on door seals, they were incredibly nasty
    Vaccuum

    EXTERIOR
    rinse loose dirt off
    wheels cleaned
Armor All wheel cleaner on rims (trying to finish off the bottle)
    Westley's bleche white on tires
Wash with Meg's deep crystal car wash
    Dry

-break- it got so hot out

    rinse and dried again
scratch x on door handles and few other spots
clay bar, three passes on hood
    megs cleaner wax
    nxt 2.0

    Pics:
Before, paint is a little hazy and dull

close up on front of hood, lots of road garbage, will be gone

dull paint, with some minor swirling

drastic before and after on the door seals

after wash, starting to look cleaner

door handle before and after scratch x

clay, after just one pass on half of the hood!

    hood after cleaner wax

    after nxt2.0

All in all, Im pretty happy, and Im absolutely amazed at the clay, this was my first time using the stuff. There were some swirls in the paint, not bad for a non-garaged 3 year old daily driver that has 80k miles. The scratch x took the scratches right out. I never realized just how big this car was until I had to detail it!

It came out pretty good, too bad the sun was gone when I was finished, so I couldnt get any good body reflection shots, but they woulda looked like the above! The result would have been even more drastic with a darker color. This color is by far the best Ive seen for hiding dirt. Any tips for improvement are welcome. I gotta get a machine!
