  • 1967 VW Squareback

I sold my Audi; I loved the car and hated to see it go but I think I found a nice replacement for it... a 1967 VW Squareback. I saw one of these while I was riding my bicycle around Costa Mesa a year ago and I instantly knew I needed to own one at some point. Since then I've been keeping and eye out for one that's in good shape but has enough stuff for me to work on and make my own. Well, I found one at Oldbug.com! It's in pretty good shape given the fact that it's about 40 years old. I just worked on the paint a couple of weeks ago and the finish actually came out looking pretty good! Mike Pennington and I hit it up with some PRC on a rotary and then followed up with NXT 2.0 just to give it a little more protection.

Anyways, here are some after pictures. I edited them so they look like they were taken with a cheap camera from the 70s; I think it matches the car

That plaid interior is just too darn cool, Blake.

That is super cool! I'm not a VW afficionado, but are those the Karmann Ghia wheels? I'm sorry to sound ignorant here, but what is PRC? What was the car like beforehand?

                  EDIT: It's okay ... I understand now:

... Wow! Great results for a renovation and wax!!!

                    Thanks guys.

The paint was in decent shape; there's still some wetsanding marks and deeper scratches that didn't come out yet. I'll probably spend one day per panel wetsanding and going at it with 105 to get it looking its best. Also, while we were working on it we noticed that the paint had a nasty brown tint to it before we buffed it all off! Talk about dirt-in-paint! I wish I had taken some before shots but lets be honest, the beauty shots are always the fun ones.

Great looking VW, saw one in Jan during the VW and Wintermazdapalozza event in Clearwater. Next one is in July, hope to see another one there.
