The Power of 83 on a BMW X3

The dealer got this low mileage Titanium Gray Metallic (go figure...the color doesn't match the words BMW assigns LOL) that had the usual light scratches and swirls from normal daily driving.

So, I used 83 with a compound pad on the rotary (1400 rpm seemed to work best on the hard clear coat) and followed that with 83 on a finish pad for polishing. A quick power wash to remove excess material from body seams and back in the shop for a coat of #26 and dressed the black plastic body pieces and tires + wheel wells.

Ready for delivery tomorrow!

Great job Toto! Didn't know 83 could finish down so well on a polishing pad that you could go right to #26. Would have figured you'd need to use 80 or some other polish.

I did a little googling. Scissor lifts run around $1500 to $2000. Not as bad as I thought.

IMO...83 is THE single most versatile product in the Meguiar's lineup. Need scratches removed?...83 and a compound or wool pad. Polishing?....83 and a finish pad. I've used it for years on a pc and still marvel how it works on a rotary.

One method I've used for heavy compounding work is: when I think I've removed all the scratches from compounding (whether it's 105 or 3M Extra Cut), I make some passes with 83. This acts as a polishing agent and allows me to quickly see if there are any remaining scratches. Sometimes, compounds will "hide" those light scratches. If there are any remaining, I can either go back with compound or work 83 until the finish is completely scratch-free. There is nothing worse than going back to an area you think you've corrected, only to find these remaining scratches. 83 solves that while you're at that particular place on the car.
