  • My Cars First Detail

    Hey everyone,

This detail was from a month ago but i'd like to hear feedback from you guys on what i can do to improve my cars appearance. I basically used products i had available to me in the garage.

My cars color is 'Lunar mist' (Silver). It's a difficult color to achieve a deep wet look. This detail was done by hand only.

(Note: I didn't bother claying/waxing the front bumper because it's getting replaced soon because of an accident.)

If you guys could leave me some feedback on what products to use, what steps i need to add during my process, etc, that would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks everyone!

    Steps i did:

1.) Wash Car (Ice Car Wash)
    2.) Dry Car
3.) Claybar (Meguiars Smooth Surface Clay Kit)
    4.) Wax (Turtle Paste Wax)
    5.) Wipe entire car down

    Re: My Cars First Detail

looks good to me its very shiny, and because of its light and shiny nature the refections are not as obvious.

1.Wash -are you using the 'two bucket method' and a washmitt, not a sponge, this is to stop swirls and scratches.
2.Drying- Microfibe of some sort? Chamious again inflicts damage
    3.Claying- Fine
4.If you are happy with turtle wax then use it, let it dry and buff off.

From the proffesional line #16 paste wax gives good results, (gets some advice on application i have a similar non-megs product and if you put it on too thickly of too long its hard to get off)

Make sure the wash shampoo is not to agressive (ie when you have finished your car, wait and the next time it rains have a look at the beading of water) if it doesnt rain when it gets to its next wash spray water on to simulate rain and you will see how it deteriates over time. if you dont use #16 then most waxes give around 4-6 weeks protection. i will pm you with what i use as its non meguiars, i gives great shine, reflection and lasts and lasts (potential 12months in ideal conditions)

    Hope this Helps
    Christian

One thing that I look in your process is that you clean the paint and seal it but you don't remove defects, is this why you are not interested or you just don't know what to use?

I see that you are very interested in shine so thinking that you are not interested on removing defects then you could do something like this process
Wash (NXT or Gold Class Shampoo) w/ two bucket method and MF wash mittDry (you can use meguiar's water magnet)
      Clay (Smooth Surface Clay Kit)
      Polish (#81 Hand Glaze)
Wax (NXT 2.0 or any other high quality wax)

If you are interested in removing defects but you just don't know how or what to use then I would suggest reading the link
How To Remove Swirls By Hand
How to remove a defect by hand with ScratchX

For paint defect removal you can use ScratchX or Meguiar's DC1 and this process or products should be used after you clay

      Hope this helps
