  • G110 + 105 + + 21 2.0 + Black Car = Show Car Finish

As part of a research project at the University of Vermont I am testing the performance of a battery electric vehicle in the cold/hilly terrain of Vermont. We had to bring the car to a clean car demo recently and I just couldn't bring a dirty clean car so I had to give the car the Meguiar's treatment.

The paint was in very rough shape. It appears to have been washed w/ a car wash brush on more than one occasion, leaving straight-line scratches and swirls all over the place:

I recently purchased a G110 (ex PC 7424 user) and some M105. I realize this product is not intended for G110 use, but I figured what better way than a black car to test out this product?

I washed the car and clayed the entire car first. I started out trying the M105 by hand w/ a foam applicator. After just 2 quick passes, 90% of the defects were removed from my test area:

One thing I noticed right away was that M105 appeared difficult to remove after it was worked in, but a quick mist of QD took care of that problem.

Happy with the results, I decided to try the G110 w/ a 8006 pad. The combo worked superbly! Here are a couple of reflection shots of my brother immediately after removing the M105:

I followed this up w/ #81, #21 2.0, hyper dressing on the tires and Glass Cleaner Concentrate (diluted of course) on the windows. Here is the finished product:

And finally, here is the car on display at the clean car event after a quick wipe down w/ M135, with a close up of the sun's image:

Aside from the difficulty removing the M105 and the dusting, this experiment was very successful.

      Nice work!!

So you used the 8006 pad with M105? I may have to pick some of that up.

What speed did you use on the G110?

        Re: G110 + 105 + + 21 2.0 + Black Car = Show Car Finish

        Very nice job!

Just to point out that #105 is not recommended by Meguiar's to be used with the DA and because of this it could be that you had difficulty removing #105. I say this because I've used #105 with the rotary and removing it it's just like removing #83 I guess, it's smooth and no QD is ever required.

I don't know if it's the paint but sometimes when you use combinations of products/pads/tools that are not recommended by Meguiar's you tend to get variations in the results and how the product behaves.

Very nice job! Great shot with the reflection of the sun in the paint.

That is one reflective finish. Very good work. Excellent results.

I had the exact same results when applied by hand, which is recommended by Meguiar's. It was really dry (25% relative humidity) when I did this, that may have had something to do with it???

I used speed 5 most of the time. I tried 6 and didn't see any maring, but I also didn't see any improvement in M105 performance, so I went back to 5.

Great job!!! The paint looks fantastic!!!!!

The gumming is most likely caused by the application method and the amount of product being used. When used with the rotary, and with the correct amount of product, there is no gumming what-so-ever. Also, the M105 was designed to be used with wool pads. As such, the few gumming issues I have read about have been people using the foam pads instead of the wool pads (which are rotary only). Finally, reduce the amount of product as that may also help.

Is this a paint defect you couldn't get out?
