  • Neglected Black 350Z, teaser pics...

So I was bored after work and thought I'd play around with my roommates 350Z. I think it's a 2004 and he has not waxed it since it was new. I don't know if I've even seen a more neglected car of this status. My clay bar will be toast after this car.

The clear was weird on this car and I had some trouble finding a combo I liked. I started out using my FLEX with Meguiars #80 equipped with a W8006 pad which had little results. I stepped it up to #83 and still had minimal results. Then I tried #80 with my rotary and that made some progress but still not to my likings. Finally I pulled out the new #105 on the rotary and then the paint finally came to life. Check out how bad the paint on this car is! It had all kinds of above surface defects, etched in bird droppings, deep scratches and scuff. To top it off the whole front end was chipped really bad which I thought was odd since it only has like 40K on it. I will actually finish the car another and I only had time to do the hood since he was leaving for the night.

    door

    roof

    hatch

    etched bird poo

    large scuff on door

    deep scratch on door

    major scratches down low

    more etched bird poo

    after #80 with rotary

    after #105 and rotary....(#105 rocks!)

    finished product....(notice all the chips!)

I should have finished pics in a few weeks. Just need to find a time when he is actually home for the weekend.

So your roommate probably tells people he has a pretty cool car, huh? (it is) And he thinks it's really bad because it's black, doesn't he? (it is) I don't get why people buy nice cars and then just...... ignore them. You're doing a good thing there.

When you're done tell your roommate you'd like the keys so you can take his car out on the town for the evening. If he balks at the idea, tell him I said it was OK. (don't forget to tell him how cool I think his car is!) Hey, you're making it very evident that you care more about the car than he does, ergo, you should be the one driving it.

    Sounds fair, right?

What type of pad did you use with the rotary and #105?

I echo Mikes thoughts. For the life of me, I can never figure out why people neglect thier vehicles so much. You will bring the Z back to life. It will look great, 6 months later it will look like this again. Good luck, can't wait for the final pics. Maybe he will see the light.

I hate seeing nice cars like that being abused. Nice job bringing it back to life.

                Thanks guys!

Well I got to drive it to the car wash.

I'm actually going to show him the 5-step system so that he can take car of it properly when I'm done with it. He is going to go over it with the PC and #9 after I'm done with the rotary.

I agree, why by a nice car and then trash it?

Well I didn't have a W7006 and my wool pads were shot so I used my W8006 pads. I did experience some gumming up though on this car but I was still able to get good results. I plan to get some wool pads to finish the rest of the car.

I agree that he should take better care of it, especially if it's black.

Awesome job. I think that you got good results even after using #80. I guess it all depends on the results you are looking for. That was nice of you to show your friend the potential of his car's paint.

A member on a Honda forum was trying to use ScratchX and he was not seeing results. I decided to try it on the 350Z to show him that while it may not remove everything it deffinitely makes a difference.

Here is a pic I just took doing 3 applications of ScratchX on my roomies 350Z that is trashed. The clear on this car is a lot harder than the Civic the Honda member is working on.

as has been said, I can't stand nice cars with owners that dont care about them

that is a pretty cool car though

Well if everybody cared for their cars, we wouldn't need detailers.
