  • 1st detail of 2008

Of course it rained right after I finished detailing the 'zuki, so here's what it looks like after its first wash after it's first detail Unfortunately, the sun insisted on washing out the color, but the views of the shaded side of the car are pretty close to reality:

In the last pic, you can see a double reflection of my fat legs.

PS I tried to make these clickable thumbnails because I forgot to resize them before uploading (oops), but didn't quite get it right. Go to My gallery to see the full-sized pics

          Thanks all,

If I didn't have a 100 mile round-trip to work and MPG wasn't such a high priority, I would have gotten something a bit 'cooler' than the Suzuki. That being said, this thing is faster than I would ever have believed and in DIRE need of a limited slip/positraction differential, I can spin the tires in 2nd gear

A recap of the process was #9 followed by Deep Crystal Step #2 Polish, both on polishing pads @ 5 on the PC and topped with Collinite.

Today I rewashed the car because it got rained on (Like I really NEED a reason ) I tried something a bit different and scrubbed the tires with Murphy's Oil Soap. It didn't do too bad, but the tires were fairly clean to begin with. After the wash (and after the pics were taken), I used the UQD for the first time. It worked really well everywhere except the hood and the trunk lid (I didn't do the roof) where it smeared and I put a few hairline scratches in the surface. For some reason, car hoods don't like me and even though I can get the rest of the car immaculate, the hoods always develop one issue or another. The worst part is that 99.9% of the time no one else but me even notices the flaws - but they drive ME crazy!!

I don't have any of the NXT 2.0 yet, but I do have 1/2 can of paste in the garage, so once the sun dipped behind the house and the car was in full shade, I put a thin coat of NXT on the hood and trunk lid. I waited for the swipe test to come out right, then I went over the areas slowly like Mike suggested to someone a while ago...I kind of saw myself in that post as I had always tried to buff the wax residue off by hand as fast as a R/O buffer would. I seem to have gotten improved results with less effort since slowing down and being more deliberate in my movements. A light buff on the exterior glass with the UQD and I called it a night. I'm looking forward to seeing the results in the sunlight tomorrow.

            The car looks great Don!

Never heard of this though. Do you do it with Murphy's Oil Soap often, or was this the first time?

I use Murphy's mostly to clean my buffer pads...it cuts right through any polish or wax and rinses out easily. I recently tried it (Murphy's) out on several interior pieces - soft vinyl, hard plastic and fabric (headliner and seats) and was amazed at how well it worked. I mixed about 4-5oz of Murphy's with hot water in a 32oz spray bottle then lightly sprayed an area and scrubbed with a soft brush. After that, all I did was wipe the area off. The soft vinyl and rubber felt soft, not dried out and looked like it had been sprayed with Meg's Quick Interior Detailer. It took ballpoint pen ink out of the headliner easily and I could tell a big difference in the seats, but the seats are so bad, I'm going to have to use an extractor.
