  • Gone Fishn'!!!

    Hey everyone,

When I was 16 and bought my first truck, I was so proud, I must have waxed the truck at least 2 times a week!!! But it was also a 4x4 with BFG Mud Terrains. As well, I also liked mud bogging and fishing. Mud bogging and detailing seem to be at the opposite ends of the spectrum!

Hence the problem years later: I love to keep my vehicles spot-less. But I also like to use them for their intended purpose. In the case of my Ford Super Duty 4x4, I wanted my cake and eat it too!!

Some people are so scared to use their cars/trucks after a detail. Probably from all of the hours put in buffing. But to me, I also love the outdoors. True, I will not take my truck through mud bogs (did that when I was a kid) and I will not take the truck down the road where branches leave me "Racing Stripes". But I still use it.

So, I decided to detail my truck thoroughly knowing full well that 3 days later I was going fishing/camping. I used a combination of:
#83 DACP (rotary, and only where needed),
    #80 Speed Glaze (rotary) and
2 coats of NXT Tech Wax (PC).

When we got back, I washed my truck with just Meguiar's #62 Car Wash Shampoo and Conditioner and dressed the tires with Meg's new All Season Dressing. No QD's or anything else.

    Here are the results:

At the lake; just a "little" dusty!!

A little dust on the wheels!

Now the after, remember just Meg's #62 Car Wash Soap and All Season Dressing on the tires:

Full sun shot with no swirls:

    And, finally the reflection shot!

Even after all of that dust, and over some really rough roads, the truck still stayed swirl free! Moreover, I was really impressed with the gloss and depth of the paint from the NXT Tech Wax!!

I love having my cake and eating it too!!

That's an awesome transformation Tim, it just goes to show that doing the job right the first time, coupled with a regular maintenance program equals show car results.

Barry always says, "Frequent car care is easy car care"

Meaning if develop a car maintenance program, you'll be able to keep your car looking brand new all the time and it won't require a lot of work or time. It's when you let your car go for weeks and even month, (and in some cases, years), that car care becomes time consuming and difficult.

Good job Tim, and excellent photography work and nice write-up.

        Thanks guys!!!

        Mike,

I could not agree more with Barry's:

"Frequent car care is easy car care"

If one takes care of the paint, you can sit back and enjoy it and the other good things in life!!!

        Cheers!

Hats off to you Tim for keeping your truck lookin' good!

Meguiars products will be tested here at home this weekend too...We are going to be hit with 2 hurricanes at about 2 days apart. I guess I'd better go tie up the trash cans & whatnot before too long!

I'll never forget Hugo back in '89....My car was damaged by a falling limb due to 100 MPH winds.

Maybe we won't get that much this time, but I'm looking for some flooding to occur.

I was reading in the local paper recently about the 100 year anniversary of a devastating flood that hit western NC about this time of the year back then...Believe it or not, the flood was caused by 2, back to back hurricanes to hit the area!

I can't believe this is happening again, exactly 100 years later!

he looks very nice... it seems @ the lake that they have the same dusty ground as in Belgium.. very nasty

but if i see your truck again after you did a clean and detail job it looks great again

                    Hey Vandelete

I can not speak for other areas, but up here, our ground changes from hard packed dirt in one area to extremely dusty conditions in another area. Then when it rains....!!! We have many areas that are passable when dry, but when it rains, you could be in real trouble if not very careful!!

                        Hey,

Actually, I have never been stuck with this truck. I have Michelin XPS Traction (Mud Terrain) tires, 4.30 gears with Limited slip and a V10 engine. So, if I get this truck stuck, I am REALLY in trouble!!

                        Cheers!

I've learned one thing in my years for working/playing with trucks and it brings me to my second point......

                            Hey 2000,

Funny you say that. When my now wife were dating, I picked her up and went to take her for a nice winter drive. I had a Ford Ranger 4x4 with the off road package, BFG Mudders, Ranchos etc. She said: "Are you sure it is safe to go off road in the middle of winter?" Of course I replied: "I have never been stuck in this truck!"

Well........a few hours later, we drove in to this mountain park. Little did I know, a large 4' ditch was dug for drainage. But the idiots plowed snow into the hole, probably for drainage, but making it invisble. I was in 4 wheel Low range when I hit the ditch. The truck sunk like a rock. I have a picture somewhere where my wife took a picture of me trying to find the bottom of the motor in all the the snow. Also of course, no cell phone coverage and no tree to use my Hi Lift jack as a winch. After a few hours of digging, a truck came by and tried to pull us out. I got half way out when he got stuck. So I had to pull him backwards, driving myself back into the hole. After a couple more attempts, we were out.

So needless to say, I think you may be right!! I guess I better start saving for a Warn winch!!
