Detailed the Jaguar

Here's some before & after pics of our 1967 Jaguar that I polished and waxed (used some 80, ScratchX, and NXT 1.0) and it came out pretty darned good!

There are still some scratches in the paint, but it's turning out to be RIDS that I'm going to have to hit with a rotary (probably via a SO1O system). I'm a little leery of doing that, since some scratches are pretty deep...I'll probably practice on my gf's Toyota before I do it on this car! That, or bring it up to Meg's for an advanced class and have a Mike show me how to pull them out...

There are a few spots on the hood that look white; some of those are either bird droppings that happened while the car was on the lawn, getting ready to get washed off, or they're paint chips.

I wish I could've taken another shot of the car outside under the tree, but my dad came home and parked behind the Jaguar, and the street parking was taken up, so I got the shots in the garage instead. I think I did a pretty good job of pulling out some of the swirls that the car had, and removing the "haze" that the car had before.

Thanks! It's not perfect; when you get up on the car and look closer, you can still see some scratches (especially on the roof of the car, where it looks like someone dragged something across the top) but hey, it's a driver, not a trailer queen show car! It's GONNA have some scratches, some rock chips, some little dents & dings here and there...I mean, the car's older than I am, so it's no surprise there's a few problems with the car's paint.

Yes, it may have a few scratches and minor chips here and there but it's a 1967 E-Type Jaguar that is enjoyed the way it was intended to be enjoyed - on the road!! Good for you!!

A few weeks ago at our local Cars & Coffee gathering there was a completely original 1934 Aston Martin in attendance. The owner drove it to the show! It was dirty, the leather was worn and dull, the paint faded and showing heavy patina, then engine bay dirty and greasy. It was absolutely gorgeous!!!

No, unfortunately, it's not original paint; the car was originally Canary Yellow (there's evidence of this along the door jambs when you open it up, but it's not too noticeable) and the hood was originally red (The previous owner had a minor fender bender at about 5 mph, took out the original hood and had to have it replaced; the insurance company scrapped the car and he salvaged it, fixed it, and then sold it) I don't see any green paint coming up on the pads when I'm polishing, so I have to assume that it's clearcoated.

I'm going to keep working on some of it and see if I can't get it looking better over the next few months; the car's going to be headed to the local cruise-ins throughout San Diego (Every Wed, Thurs, or Fri. night there's a classic car event where people bring out their drivers and just cruise the boulevard or park & have dinner at one of the local shops). I'd love to get it show quality, but there are too many imperfections in the paint that will prevent that (I've got at least 1 scratch on the driver's side door that went through to primer, and lots of fish eyes on the top of the car).
