  • alittle practice work on a friends beater

a friend of mine recently totaled his 00' pontiac sunfire and is now driving his sisters old car (95' cavalier). since hes planning on junking it in about 2 months and will be getting a brand new car he said i could practice on it as much as i want. the car is SERIOUSLY beat up! dents, dings, crumples....u name it its got it. the hood surprisingly wasnt as bad as the rest of the car but it definetely had its problems.

the car was never waxed and it looked like someone took a box lined with sandpaper and dragged it across the hood. heres what i used:

    Clay bar with QD
    #83 with W8006
Scratch X with applicator pad (while putting some xtra passion behind that pad for the deep scratches)
    #80 with W8006 (2 passes)
    NXT with W9006

now this hood really was beat up so i did the best i could it this was purely for gaining some experience. but i think it came out pretty good considering what i was working with. sorry the pictures arent so great, my digital camera ofcorse ran out of battery power so i was forced to use my cell phone (3.2 megapixel). also by the time i was finished the sun was going down so no direct sunlight shots but most of the swirls (and there were plenty to go around) were completely taken out.

afters (first picture is the after of the above deep scratches)

after i was done my friends mother came out and offered to pay for me to do the rest of the car. i actually didnt have any time since i was going over to a friends house for the superbowl.....GO GIANTS!!! so i wasnt able to take her up on her offer. but i did tell her i would really appreciate it if she told people about my work and she said shed be happy to do it. best form of advertisement is word of mouth and the proof is in the paint!

Wow that's crazy. Did you apply the Scratch X by hand or with a machine?

first i went over the hood with the PC and #83 and after seeing how the scratches turned out i used the scratchx accordingly. i did it by hand and put the passion behind the pad. the scratches are still there but the difference as you can see is HUGE. finished off with 2 passes of #80 and topped it with some NXT and what you see is what you get. i cant WAIT for the spring to start doin this again. or atleast some more unseasonable warmth and sun

you guys in ur warmer climates dont know how good you got it. my mustang is BEGGING to be taken out of her garage but i just cant bring myself do it in winter weather.
