Polishing a Meguiar's Big Rig!!

So I get an email from Mike Pennington asking if I can spare some time to help polish out Meguiar's big rig. Seems it got damaged at Barrett-Jackson when an errant tent was allowed to rather violently flap against it all night long during its visit to Westworld. I didn't get to see the "before" as I couldn't get to Meguiar's offices until just after noon by which time Tom MacDonald and Blake Beamish and already done a fair amount of work - including most of the wetsanding to correct the really bad scratches.

So the program was to wet sand as needed, then rotary polish with M105 on a wool pad, follow with M82 on a yellow foam polishing pad and finish with NXT 2.0. Fortunately we only had to deal with one side of the trailer!! Being Meguiar's this is NOT a big ol' vinyl decal on the truck - it's all paint. And wet sanded pretty darn flat I might add. Very nice!!


This is what I saw as I pulled into the parking lot.



Here's Blake up on the scaffolding getting ready for another pass of M105.

I said the paint was pretty flat, right? Well check out this reflection shot. Yes, this is a reflection off the side of the big rig.

Tom seeks advice from one of Meguiar's R&D guys (sorry, his name escapes me now) while Blake tries his had at "management". Or just has a coffee break.

I should point out that none of those reflection shots are truly full "afters" - that is, they were either shot after using just M105 or the M82 follow up. I didn't take a single shot after applying the NXT 2.0 as it was getting dark when we finished up.

Looks like Meguiars hit a grand slam with the M105 eh?

Can't wait to get my polisher back and gets a little warmer (it was 16 degrees this AM) to continue practicing.

What better way to show people the greatness that is Meguiars than having a flawless big rig like that. Those reflections are simply perfect, not a hint of orange peel, swirling, or anything. Awesome work to whoever painted it, and you guys for the after-work.

Mike, awesome work. Those reflection shots are incredible. The 105 is a truely incredible product. Those pics should make any non-believers convert. Thanks for sharing.

One more thing...what kind of 5 Series is that in one of the reflection shots? Looks kinda like a M5, but then not really?

We did the entire side of the trailer that you see in the "full truck" shot. Figure that I got there at 12:30 and put in 5 hours along with Tom and Blake and you've got 15 man hours there, plus maybe another 4 hours from Tom and Blake before I got there and that's a grand total of 23 man hours just to do that side. And that doesn't even include the work done on it before it left Westworld!!!

As for the 5 Series (I assume you're talking about the black one in the car port).....I don't know. I believe it's a newer non-M with custom wheels but I couldn't tell you anything more specific than that.

Sorry you missed out Shawn, guess you need to check your email every day when you get home from work!!
