  • cute shot of my beastie...

found a nice shot of my beastie on-line (I didn't take the photo), from the Motor4Toys charity car show in December. Was a nice high-res shot that looks amazing on my high-def computer monitor at home. Just thought I'd share...

Gorgeous car!! Love the color, too. That is one of my dream cars; has been for many many years. Maybe one day...
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

... most people don't realize how obtainable they actually are. Well-constructed replicas sell anywhere from low 20s to high 80s, depending on the particulars (which kit or rolling chassis, engine, tranny, etc.)

It's strictly a toy though... completely impractical. I rarely "show" it because I always feel like I have to stand guard the whole time. I don't even like parking it out of sight (nor does the insurance company). There's a lot of kids around here that like to get their grubby paws all over it. So far, none have gotten burned by the sidepipes yet (just myself), so that's a plus.

It's surprisingly easy to drive, considering it's got 600+ hp & tq. The heavily offset pedal position takes some getting used to. With IRS, it rides & handles quite nicely, tho the seats would take their toll on a long drive.

It's a hoot tho... definitely an attention-getter. Thought my neighbors would kill me because of all the racket it makes when I light it up, but they all seem to love it. Lucky me...

it'll wake the dead... the sidepipes do have mufflers in them, tho they don't really do much to quiet it down. Stabbing at the throttle is like poking a dragon with a stick!

the night I got home after it's first outing, I heard my neighbor on the other side of the hedge about 20 minutes later... figured he was coming over to see the new toy.

After he saw it, he said: "oh, man... is THAT was all the noise was?... you a$$! I just spent the last 20 minutes sweating buckets up in the attic because I thought my A/C blew up!"

My neighbor on the other side said all his windows rattle when I fire it up...

                      but they love it...

I'll bet that puppy is a blast to drive!!! The quickest thing I ever rode in (acceleration-wise) was a '68 Corvette with a 427cu rat motor in it. Talk about pinning your back to the seat!! I can only imagine how much stronger your Cobra is with almost 200 additional HP. Wow.

... it's a challenge, that's for sure. It has a close-ratio Tremec TKO-600 transmission, and with the aluminum flywheel (and 3.73 gears), it winds up fast- you're bouncing off the rev limiter before you know it. The down side is that the tranny does not really like to shift quickly at high rpms... a trait I discovered on the dyno. As a result, had a propensity to miss a few shifts... but I guess I'm still getting used to it. It's a hoot when you get it right tho!
