  • Two black Mustangs, both detailed with Meguiars products! *car show update*

The '90 LX 5.0 convertible belongs to my friend Alex and the '04 V6 coupe is mine obviously. There's a big car show coming up this saturday so we've both started getting the cars ready. On his, he did the following:

    wash/dry
    Meguiars Smooth Surface kit claybar
    Meguiars Deep Crystal Polish
    Meguiars Deep Cystal Carnuaba Wax
    wheels cleaned, tires dressed

    On mine:

Wash with Meguiars GC Shampoo/car wash with a microfiber mitt
    dry with absorber
    Meguiars Smooth Surface kit claybar
    Meguiars Paint Cleaner Wax
    Meguiars Deep Crystal Polish
    Meguiars Deep Crystal Canuaba Wax
Wheels cleaned with a bucket of GC shampoo and an old cloth mitt
Tires dressed with Meguiars Hot Shine

And I still need to do my engine bay and interior for the show!!

Just thought I would share. It's also worth mentioning that I just got a handful of new mods for the V6... including the dual exhaust with flowmaster mufflers and 3.5" stainless tips, the smoked clear corner headlight housings, some billet interior accesories, and the full suspension (eibach pro-kit springs, tokico blue HP shocks and struts, UPR polished billet Shark CC plates, and a GT take-off rear swaybar). Car's looking, sounding, and definitley handling much better now!

Looking good. Black is intense when polished.

                    Raymond,

                    I have some quextions.

                    1. Did you buy your 2004 new?

                    2. How often do you do that full detail?

                    3. Assuming you do a lesser detail for "normal" cleanup, what products are you using for that?

                        1. This is actually my second black '04 V6 coupe. My first one I had bought new from the dealership in the end of '03. We ordered it with exactly what options we wanted and took delivery. I spent a few years modifying it and got it looking like this:

Then this past summer on the way to school, I was getting on the highway after it had just finished raining, when I spied a Hummer H2 barreling down the road towards me. I panicked and tried to accelerate to get out of the way, hydroplanes, couldn't correct it, and when the car caught traction it ripped sideways toward the concrete wall at approx. 45mph head-on. Hit it, spun around, scraped against the wall with the rear of the car for a good couple hundred feet, then came to a stop.

$14k in damages, insurance totalled it out... gave us money to get a replacement. For a few months I was driving my old '88 Toyota MR2 while we searched for the perfect match - I wanted as close to the same car as I had before. Parents wouldn't allow me to upgrade to a GT or V8 of any kind, so I took the next best thing - another version of my old car.

Bought this one used from a Maroone Ford dealership with 33k miles, clean carfax, and overall appeared to be very well taken care of. Now I'm slowly transferring the parts I salvaged off my old Mustang onto this one. The rims are the next thing to go on, but since one was bent on the impact with the wall I have to save up to buy a replacement.

                        2. That full detail is only 2-3 times a year at the most. It's too much work to do more often, and with going to school Mon-Fri and working Sat-Sun - my free time is spent attempting to have fun lol.

                        3. I wash the car once a week. GC car wash with a mitt and bucket, dry with absorber. Wheels/tires/fenderwells are always cleaned, engine bay is always wiped down so it never gets very dirty. Interior is always vacuumed and wiped down. That whole process will take me about 2 hours, and like I said, I try to do it once a week.

Ouch! Those are some sad pix! Thankfully, it sounds like you weren't injured.

Maroone Ford? There's a joke in there somewhere....

So, just to confirm - you don't put any product on the paint on a weekly basis? Even in the crash pix the paint looks phenomenol (especially for a black car).

Thanks! And yeah I was alright in the accident, everyone said I was very lucky. The lady in the red Corolla said that when I hit the wall the car went up in the air, and on the other side of that wall (it's on a bridge), is a good 50ft drop into a canal below... so needless to say I'm glad the only thing that hurt was my heart - corny I know but that car was my pride and joy. And why a joke about Maroone Ford? It's where my family bought my old '04, our '03 F250 turbodiesel, our '07 Mustang, and my new '04. Best dealership in my area honestly. As for the paint staying nice, I might give it a fresh coat of wax every 5-6 washes or so, but definitley not every week. I dunno why my paint looks so nice but I'm not complaining!
