  • Detail by hand

WOW!! I need a PC or go to the gym.

First time after reading so many topics on this forum, this was done by hand and pictures taken after process (sorry no before, SWIRLED, dirty)

    2005 Dodge Neon SXT
Orange Blast paint (and the orange peel to go with it )

    Process:

Wash with GC Soap - 2 Bucket method
    Dry
    Meguiars Clay
    Meguiars ScratchX
    Meguiars Cleaner Wax
Meguiars Polish (2nd Stage of the 3 stage stuff)
    Meguiars Gold Class liquid wax
    Invisible Glass on windows
Meguiars #40 on trim and wheel wells
    Meguiars Hot Shine on Tires
Meguiars Natural shine for the interior
Clayed the wheels and GC Wax

All by hand, took me 6 hours to get this result. The sun went down, I had more photos but seemed to have lost them in the gallery somehow. LOL. I did learn that the cheap MF towels at Costco and the cheap blue MF towels do not work. I had troubles with swirls and just about gave up, I broke out the Meguiars MF towels I got for Christmas and proceeded to do the car and discovered that the Meguiars towels are much softer and did not swirl the paint. Now I have some very very minute swirling which is hard to see still but this was my first shot with doing the real McCoy. I also found out not to leave the buckets in the middle of the driveway, the Yukon flattened one, I told the wife to look out .

    Thanks for looking

Top view, not a bad reflection, can barely see the moon!

This blemish will be taken care of via 12 Gauge Shotgun, this happened right after the touch ups to the trim.

    Head on shot.

Will try to find the others and put them up later, wifey waiting for me to get off the computer

    Heres some more:

    Nice reflection I think

I did wash this Wednesday, ScratchX the hood and Cleaner Wax, NXT liquid but the beast is huge, will wait to get a PC for this behemoth.

This is my Step Son's truck, he's 14, it's his Great Grandad's Truck that has now passed on to him, 1966 Dodge D-100 with a 318, we had to replace the slave cylinder and bleed it, showed him how to bleed it and bled the brakes while we were at it as we had to drive from Grants Pass Oregon to our house.

This is my baby, 1964 Chevy C-10, 350 4sp, needs set of heads, burnt valve, new paint, TLC you know? but's it's my baby!

No, I didn't buy any tape but I was pretty careful and got very little wax on the trim.

Excellent job! I was cracking up at your comments regarding the "blemish" (I don't know how those birds know when there is a freshly detailed surface below them ... but they do!! The very first time I waxed my car, when we had just started to wipe it off, LITERALLY in THE only 6" area of my car that had wax wiped off, a bird came right along and "blemished" that EXACT spot! The rest of the car was still totally covered in wax, but that ONE spot that wasn't, got hit dead on. Unbelievable lol ... )

Sorry to hear about your bucket, but that picture was pretty priceless.

Congrats on the great-looking results from all of your hard work! Have fun with those trucks too!

Thanks for the comments guys, been reading on stuff for a long time with you guys and Mike and Mike and Superior Shine and toooooooo many to list but I have read all of your show off's and tips and what not. We have 5 kids, one in college, a PC or good Rotary are the bottom of the priority list right now, I thought of the Harbor Freight route but read too many that didn't like it, so.....I will wait. I need to get the '64 on the road and show the little tyke that my 350 will smoke his 318. HE HE HE HE, he'll probably smoke me, it runs great and everything is original on his '66, 3 on the tee

              Thanks again guys.

and.....yes, I hate birds, I just got done finishing the trim around the windows and showing the wife how the car looked and I saw that......I thought, "go get the shotgun with 00 and I'll smoke the bird." LOL.

I love the Neons. I had one for awhile, detailed it the night I got my PC. I love that orange color as well. Very nice!

Thanks for the comments guys, means a lot to me. I watch you guys perform your magic and I sit and look at my swirled up cars and nice to see my Neon so nice looking. I took the car to my tire dealer and they did an alignment on it and they asked if the paint was custom and how nice it looked.

Update on the '66, we worked all day on the truck's interior and there is a ton of rust on the floor board, so I guess get the saw out and weld in patch panels. We took out Great Grandads trailer brake switch and did a clean up of the engine bay. The boy worked me to death on that truck, he's 14 and is real eager to drive it. He discovered that it has limited slip as he pulled it out and the rear end hopped, after the dust settled there were two stripes in the gravel.... : rofl

Great job, it's look fantastic. I love that color too. Have you thought about lowering it just a tad to get rid of some of that wheel gap?

Oh, and you think you're tired, what the heck did you do to that poor bucket?!!? Maybe you're just too darn hard on your tools?

The Neon looks fantastic, and I can see why you're now in the market for the PC. Speaking from recent experience, it's the only way to go. Just don't start killing birds and looking at that machine with more envy than you gaze at your wife, or even we might think you're crazy.

What really caught my eye is the 64 Chevy Pickup. My first vehicle! Mine had the 283 and was a 3-speed on the column. I'm not sure it was born that way, but that's what it had when I got it in 1973.

I left my washing buckets in the "side" of the driveway, the 18 yr old daughter missed them, thought the wife would, she backed out our '00 Yukon and heard a clutter. LOL. That was the result, none of my precious Meguiars brushes were injured.... I'm 6' 290 and the kids are 150+ for a 14yr old boy and 11 yr old girl, not fat, but beefy kids, my step son says we are "big game" LOL, so it gets lowered when I take them to school. LOL.

Mine was an original 230 inline 6 and has the 4 speed (with granny low) and I dropped in a 350 with headers and dual 2 1/2" exhaust, I burned a valve but funds have few and short with 5 kids and I got a "new" set of heads to put on just no $$ right now to get the necessary hardware to do so right now correctly that is with some other updating of parts. With the '66 coming into the 14yr old, I've been helping him get that road worthy so he can start driving it late this year, what we sacrifice for our kids is great when you see them smile at the end of the day when looking at their rides.

I would love a PC but funds are low. I will get one soon though. I hope I win the drawing someday..... he he then I can my cars all up.

That's cool, I attempted to bring out some shine on the '66 Dodge and actually did okay on a test panel on drivers side of the bed but it needs more work. The boy was happy that we may be able to bring out some shine to it as body work and paint is down the road afar from getting it running good. It don't need much, tune up, brake cylinder, rebuild carb, new brakes etc etc then we'll tackle the floor pans then paint. A co-worker used to do body work and is ASE certified and has offered his services for Pizza and Beer when he is called into action and he is not the type to do all the work as we stand around, the boy will get in there and do a lot of the work to appreciate it, to which he will, he is more than willing to work on the truck.

Keep the kids happy, they will look back and appreciate what we as parents have done for them and carry the tradition on to their kids.
