  • Black Honda Civic Type R

I gave the badly swirled paintwork on my 2002 Civic Type R the treatment over the weekend. What I did is as follows:

    Washed with GC Shampoo/Conditioner
    Dried with water magnet towel
    Clayed with Quick Clay
    Re-washed
Polished with PC 7424, #80 and a Sonus medium cutting pad
Waxed with PC 7424, GC Liquid Wax and Sonus waxing pad

Using the combination of the Sonus medium cutting pad and #80 I managed to remove a large proportion of the swirls that were there. I will purchase #83 to get rid of the majority of remaining scratches soon. But the final result I am very pleased with. This was the first time I used my new PC and combined with the Meg's polish and wax the shine is much wetter and deeper than I have ever achieved by hand.

It's just a shame the light was pretty **** by the time I got the camera out.

That is beautiful! I love the black.

You did a real nice job with that. I haven't tried my #80 or #83 yet, but plan to try it this weekend on white, 1995 Corolla. I hope I can do anywhere close to as good has you have.

I've got a Galaxy Gray Civic Si, which I love. I only made it to this forum after I bought the car in January. I may be up for another black car now that I'm learning more of what it takes to keep that paint looking great.

Hagfan, thanks for the comments! I'm very happy with the results. The only problem is with it being black, it doesn't stay clean for long

As you probably know Japanese paint is generally quite soft, so you should get good results on your Corolla and Civic, just as I did with #80. You have the added benefit of owning #83 as well.

you did a great job there. The black looks like a miirror. The reflections are great. Way to go.

Doesn't stay clean long, eh? Ironically, both of my first weekend detail jobs lasted for a few hours on Monday morning.

One got wet residue from a road construction crew working above and the other got a fog of dust from a building construction site across from my wife's work place.

On the upside, they wash up quick and easy with that fresh protection on there.

Do you see a lot of blue come out in your car sometimes? I just got a new Honda Nighthawk and it seems the blue really comes out on the left side. Is that normal?

You are so lucky that the UK gets the type R. We only get the si here with the 160 hp engine in the hatch back. Now though the new Si is 197 hp, much nicer than previous gens. Your car looks great.

Cheers guys! A week on and the car doesn't look like that anymore

Ah well, at least a lot of the swirls are still gone!

No, I've never noticed the left side of my CTR looking blue.
