  • First Meguiar's Detail - Silver Sentra

A few weeks ago, we finally had some weather that was good enough to allow me to give my new car a detail. The car is a 2006 Nissan Sentra Special Edition that I bought in January. It was a year old, but was brand new, just had been sitting on the lot. It's our first new car we've ever bought and got a great deal on it since the new '07 Sentras have been redesigned.

This was my first Meguiar's detail since finding this message board, I have to thank everyone for the incredible amount of knowledge I've picked up on here in a short period of time. I'm really looking forward to the Meg's class in Mississauga in May!

I started with a two-bucket wash with Gold Class, clayed the whole car, then one coat of Gold Class Paste. Trim got M40 and the tires were dressed with some old dressing I had (not Megs). I would have liked to put a second coat of wax on, but the weather was pretty chilly and the paste wax was really being tough to apply. I think I might have to get a PC to help out my bad shoulders.

Anyway, on to the pictures. Sorry for the not so hot pictures, there was no sun, as is usual in the Spring up here.

You've got it looking real nice! What did you clean the engine compartment with? I guess it got water spotted from occasional dealer washes. All better now, though.

For the engine compartment, I used mostly water with a little bit of GC shampoo in it. Then I rinsed, dried and dressed with M40. I really want to get some Hyper Dressing and Degreaser Plus to use for engines, but I'm waiting until I go to the U.S. next to pick some up for a decent price.

The car was pretty rough to the touch, that's why I went ahead and clayed it. It had rail/brake dust all along the lower panels and didn't appear to have any wax on it at all. Plus, we live very close to Toronto so we have a bit of pollution, so I wanted to start knowing I had a nice clean slate to work on.

My cars are new and I've detailed one of them. I clayed because I wanted to learn how, but also because I could feel the roughness and could really feel the difference after one test section. I'm doing my wife's this weekend and will definitely clay it.

I've go #40 so I'll try some under the hood when needed.

I've got some of the heavier stuff for my daughters '95. For that I'll clay and use 83/80, cleaner wax, #21.

Thanks for the comments. Yeah, we test drove the 07 Sentra and really liked it, especially the added headroom (I'm 6'5"). It came down to the budget and being the beginning of 07, we got this one for $3700 off the sticker and got tint thrown in.

The Special Edition is not that exciting, really. I'd really like to have fogs on it and might add them later, but the SE is really a value package they added to try to move a car that was due for a redesign in its last year. Basically the SE package threw in power locks, windows, keyless entry and
the CD player with the front AUX jack. That's all. We didn't have a lot of choice at that price, though. The dealer had four of them, all radium silver in color, same interior, three with manual tranny and one automatic. My wife doesn't drive stick, so we came home with the only automatic. I'm happy, though. Nice to have a new car with a warranty that is reliable and will probably last a long time with minimal problems. Good gas mileage too, at least it's getting better as the weather warms up and the engine breaks in.
