  • My "new" RAV4

Since my old winter car died last October, I wanted a new one to replace it. I like having a summer car and winter car, I always think I have a new car when I switch

I like small vehicles, so I found this one while patiently shopping. 1998 RAV4 4WD with 133,000 KMs on it. I put on huge mudflaps to prevent the road abrasives from eating the lower section. It's ugly, but it works.

I wanted ground clearance, I got 11" under the body and 8" under the diffs. Not bad for a little toy.

The paint was in very good condition, except for a few scratches, door dings and rock chips. No oxydation anywhere, very little rust.

I got it in early February and detailed it 2 weeks ago.

    Wash with DC
    Quik Clay
    ScratchX
    DC2
    NXT X2

PlastX on the front and rear lights, Endurance on the tires and (sorry) Mothers Protectant on the bumpers and side trim.

I washed it again today and put some Quik Wax on it. I love that green.

A bird left its mark while it belonged to its previous owner. I worked on this with ScratchX by hand for quite a while. I diminished it a lot, but from this angle, it can still be seen.

The interior was already quite clean when I got it. I just added some Tech Protect.

Going through canadian winters requires winter boots.

I have yet to do the engine.

I really like my new vehicle. I do miss the Echo's mileage though... a bit over a month to go and I'll ride her again while the RAV will sleep.

Not everywhere. For example in Quebec, they are allowed from Oct. 15 to May 1st. I believe the Ontario province doesn't allow them at all.

The studs make a lot of noise on the highway, but they are very useful on ice.

Were you able to remove scratches and swirls by hand with the Scratch X? Because I don't have a buffer and I bought Scratch X and Swirl Remover 2.0!!!

                      looks awesome.

i did the same to my girlfriend Rav-4 last year, only to have it stolen a week later.

apparently their a hot item in our area.

thanks Mr. Officer after the fact.

I removed most of them, except of course the worst ones that had gone through the paint itself, but they are less obvious now. Look at the pictures, some of them would have been visible, but they aren't from that distance. They sure were before I started.

I'll have a professional repaint the chips & these scratches next year. Buying, registering & insuring that new Toy took most of my available money.

I too do all the detailing by hand. Don't expect miracles, but expect a comforting improvement.
