  • WARNING: Boring Car

So, my wife occasionally brings home the company car (2000ish Mazda Protege) from work when she has an early out-of-town appointment the next day. Its not a bad little car, but its just not a car that makes the testosterone surge. Either way, the company really doesn't take care of it and, since I like a good challenge, I tackled it last night. Usually it just gets run through a touchless wash about once a month. I didn't take alot of before pictures but the condition of the hood was indicative of the rest of the car...

The entire car was lightly oxidized and covered in tree sap and just general difficult baked on crud...

The interior wasn't too bad off, but it could stand to be better. I forgot to get before pics of the floor mats but trust me, they were disgusting...

    So I proceeded with:

Optimun No Rinse wash (28 degrees outside, a balmy 57 in the garage)
    Clayed the horizontal surfaces
    One pass with #80
    NXT as my LSP
    #40 on anything not metal
Hot Shine tire spary on the tires

In case anyone was wondering how low water wash products (qew, onr, etc.) worked on really dirty cars...keep in mind this stuff was really baked on...

This was my wash water after ONLY THE ROOF. The bucket on the left is my "soap" bucket (ONR) and the right is my "clean" bucket. This is proof that the two bucket methed plus the grit guards really works to its intended purpose. Also notice my wash mitt which used to be white...

    And a couple after shots...

I didn't realize I used my flash for the before pictures and no flash for the afters, so I guess some of the results look a little exaggerated. Its by no means perfect, but I was quite pleased with it. Maybe this will get me some work from a few of the doctors my wife works with (since the company car's not a Porsche, they refuse do drive it ).

Eh, at least I got some practice. Sometimes, experience is reward enough.

The car does not make your heart pound, but since the car is now detailed I think that it will make your heart pound just a little. I never cared what car I drove as long as it is clean.

Nice work. I like the hood shot. I think ur garage would need more lights. It's a bit dim. Altho quite a neat and clean with ample of space. Did u use a PC or a RB with the M80..? Great job. Happy Detailing.

Yeah, I need more lights; perhaps that can be a project for this weekend. I like to keep things tidy in there, its my favorite room in the whole house. I used my PC. I'm still arguing with myself about getting a rotary buffer, though I really think it would speed things up for me.

I think it's an interesting fact that u are considering a rotary buffer. Tq. Happy detailing.
