  • BMW wheel refurbishment

    Hi everyone.

I'm new to the forum but have been checking it out over the past few days. There are some amazing transformations! I restored the alloys on my E30 BMW last year. They looked great when I first repainted them but I am finding it increasingly difficult to keep them looking good. I have used a product called "Wonder Wheels" in the past but I am very interested if any Megs products are better (less acidic). Any tips would be most welcome!

    Cheers!

      Nice one!

Thank you very much. The car is my daily driver. I polish the it every weekend but the lovely UK weather means that by Monday afternoon it is covered in ****!

The paintwork is in very good condition for a 17 year old car. However, under flourescent lights or direct sunlight you can see a fair amount of small scratches.

When summer time comes I'll put it on axle stands and really go to work!

Then there's the engine, underside, interior, suspension...

Easy to get carried away, eh? :-D

The wheels certainly look better after a repaint.
Try some of those Meguiars wheel products i am sure you will be impressed with the results.

Matt: The wheel refinish looks great. Did you paint those yourself? How did you do it?

After rubbing down with various grades of wet & dry paper I just used regular grey primer from an aerosol (2 coats), BMW Alpine Silver aerosol (2 coats) and topped them off with 3 coats of lacquer, again from an aerosol.

Big thanks to my bro for the help!

Don't the wheels get fairly hot and require some sort of special paint? I thought that wheel paints needed to be baked on like powder coat finishes??
