Second detail of the weekend was a rather nice metallic black BMW 330Cd cabriolet. Full Krankies team on this one! :thumb:
While I was commuting home from Ayr last night, Bryan did the inital prep work on this car. The cabriolet hood was treated using the Autoglym Fabric Hood Kit, I'm sure Bryan will chime in with full details on how this was applied.
The car was then washed and clayed, and the claying process was a shock! Sonus Green claym turned brown after just half a panel,

Bryan clayed some panels seven times to get them clear, using the more aggressive Meguiars blue clay as well. With the car prepped and clayed, it was ready for this morning....
As the customer wanted a full inside and outside detail, Bryan worked on the inside while I worked outside. On the inside, the car received a full extractor carpet clean, mats cleaned, leather cleaned with Gliptone cleaner and conditioned with Gliptone conditioner, glass cleaned, plastics treated with Poorboys Natural look. The end results of the interior clean:


Meanwhile, outside, it was time to assess the condition of the paint. Mild to medium swirling was visible and evidence of hologramming in places also:




Paint thickness reading varied across the car but were all healthy - above 110um and highest was 180um.
I decided to use Meguiars products on this detail, and after testing went for Meguiars #83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish applied using a Meguiars W8006polishing pad, followed by Meguiars #3 Machine Glaze applied using a Meguiars W9006 finishing pad. #83 was spread at 600rpm, two passes at 1200rpm and then five to seven passes at 1800rpm then two passes at 900rpm. Machine Glaze was spread at 600rpm, two passes at 900rpm, five passes at 1200rpm and then two passes at 900rpm. The end result on the bootlid test panel (half and half):

Some areas of deeper scratches around the car required to hits of Meguiars #83 before finishing polish. Results after machine polishing:



Meguiars #26 was used to protect the finish owing to its good durability and the nice shine it gives going over the glaze oils in Meguiars products like #3. Applied by PC using a W9006 finishing pad, spread on speed 2 for three or four passes.
The wheels were waxed with OCW, tyres with Megs Endurance. Glass with Autosmart Glass Cleaner. Alas, again, the weather did not want to co-operate but at least this time it was dry so the car could be taken outside for the afters:
