  • My present to my dad

This Father's Day, I decided to 'gift' my dad with a detailing. His 'vette has sat in his garage for the last several years and he is just starting to work on it again after retiring and fixing up his house. The car was a theft recovery when he bought it 15 years ago, and it was a mess! Apparently even the person who owned the car before it was stolen didn't take very good care of it.

I didn't take any pics of the white interior, but trust me, it was nasty. I wasn't to sure about the paint, so I stayed with #82. Starting with a cutting pad on '6,' I went over the whole car (later I found that I probably could have used #83, but I'll do that the next time). I followed the SFP with two coats of #20 & a polishing pad on '4.' The interior required almost a 1:1 Simple Green solution (even the leather...eewwww!!!)

Anyhow, here are the pics, a few before & afters...in direct sunlight (I tried to maximize the appearance of the swirls....the bigger pics show them better). There are still a fair amount of swirls & R.I.D.S. but the depth and gloss has improved dramatically.

    Looks Great Don!

Big Improvement! Did you tackle the engine as well?

I love doing Vette's! I recently detailed a silver one, same style as your Dad's! Came out great!

Keep up the great work! You're a good "boy" for doing that for your Dad!

My Dad said once..."Son...you can never do enough for a good customer!" I Said "Don't worry Dad...I won't"!

    Hehehehe

      Wow!

What a nice son! I'm partial to Corvettes myself. I love detailing them, especially when their black and in bad shape, but salvageable.

      Good job.

Maybe he'll reward you down the road with the keys and the title!

        I
I gave the engine a 'quickie'....hosed it down with Simple Green and hit the worst areas....I was trying to do everything in one day, so I went with the concept of "the outside gets seen the most, the inside is seen second most etc" and concentrated my efforts accordingly.

sad thing is you probably missed the best part where he has a tear in his eye, tell his buddies what a great son he has!

looks great, what did you use on the tires?
and if I can ask, what made you go with the #20 instead of nxt?

The tires got NXT (sprayed on before waxing & left alone. Dunno why I chose #20...just a gut feeling to use it

That was a great father's day present. The Vet looks mighty slick.

I don't know about the 'tear in his eye' part, but he mentioned today that his buddy "really liked the shine" on the 'vette.

TRANSLATION: My dad is a man of very few words...so what he said actually translates to:

"I drove the car all over the place and bragged to everyone who would listen."
